Dell G7 17.3" 300Hz Gaming Laptop - Intel Core i7 - 16GB - RTX 2070 (Max-P) - 512GB SSD - RGB Keyboard - Open Box YMMV $1085 @ BestBuy

Best Buy [bestbuy.com] dropped their price on the new G7, which means the open box units they have dropped in price as well.

Fair - $1084.99
Satisfactory - $ 1161.99
Excellent - $1239.99
Recertified (Excellent) - $1363.99

Obviously availability locally is very much YMMV, but both the Excellent and Recertified are available with free shipping as of this moment. I understand that BB open box can be hit or miss, but I've found many "fair" units which are as good as new, but without the box.

Getting Dell to extend the warranty to 1 year from date of purchase may take a little effort, but I've pretty much always been successful in doing that.

Thanks. Was going to add the full set of specs but got busy on other more urgent items and didn't circle back. I'll try to add them now just in-case.

One other potential benefit I didn't mention is the extended return period to 1/16/2021. Kind of a no-risk loaner for a few months if you're waiting to see if anything better comes long for the holidays.

The review is bad.

Most of the issues are reportedly resolved per a BIOS update released mid-September. Not saying the system is perfect, but under $1100 it may be worth a look for some people.

I had this Laptop for a while. Decided to return it since it was getting pretty hot around 100 all the time. Also GTA 5 fps drops around 15 suddenly in between. Even If the Bios gets update. I don't think it will resolve the thermal issue. Currently, I am using lenovo legion 5 17 AMD RTX 2060. Got this for 975$ pre tax . Getting gta all maxed out 60FPS. And Temps CPU below MAX 89 and GPU around 72. Also, 17 inches Legion feels more compact then Dell G7 not sure why. Same was reported in Jarrod tech video. Only good thing I felt is screen is 300HZ that is so smooth.
Happy with legion.

Do you recommend this for a design professional who uses Adobe Creative Suite? Gaming is probably overkill right? What do people recommend for around same price?

Thanks for posting this. Basically the laptop can't utilize it's expensive hardware to it's true potential due to the heating problem in the laptop. In the video, it shows that in a variety of games played, you're guaranteed an fps drop to 10-15fps sporadically in game, which is unplayable. Personally I would wait for a better laptop with better design and heat dissipation.

No brainer as a productivity laptop, meaning a desktop replacement one. Not for gaming in my opinion as thermals are atrocious.

As in you are not gonna be working with it on your lap but always at a desk and usually but not always plugged in.

EDIT: I guess it also depends how much you need true color accuracy as I am fairly certain it is a VA panel (although a great looking one). IPS panel usually has more aRGB coverage I'd have to assume.

Not true, stay away from this laptop for gaming. If you are in Albany, NY one of these returns is mine.

While it is a true MAX P 2070 I am 99.99999999% sure it is a VA panel, that is why it is able to be 300hz. However, it was definitely a beautiful screen so no complaints there. Before it overheats atrociously it runs amazing! LOL. Was easily hitting 175-200fps+ in overwatch.

I even was able to successfully hack the bios to allow undervolting (which is disabled so if you think you are just gonna throttlestop this thing, think again, at least not out of the box.)

The only thing I didn't try is running with a cooling pad. I ended up returning this and getting an ASUS Rog Strix Scar 17 [microcenter.com] and its night and day. The scar can certainly overheat as well but NEVER throttles if configured correctly. As others have stated this was a throttle nightmare.

How so? Clearly stated as both open box and YMMV. I can't fit *ALL* the price points into the subject, so I put them in the actual post.

Always willing to accept useful critiques, but really not sure where the price was "misleading"

I agree. At the end of the day someone will be able to get it at the lowest price you stated, and its YMMV.
