Looking to build a system for the kiddo. We are looking at ryzen 5 3600x with a tomahawk board. And a nicer video card. Maybe a 2060 variant of some sort what ever comes up in the next few weeks.

What should I be looking for in my ram?
I'm also build a simple gaming rig nothing high end. 16gb RAM is plenty. I would recommend something higher in speed like 3200mhz DDR4 RAM. Wait for more sales in the coming days. I got 16gb RAM for 44.49 last week.

Also the 3600X isn't worth the extra money vs the 3600 (non X)
3200 CL14 or 3600 CL16 is the fastest ram you want, anything near there is optimal

Thanks I appreciate the info it will help me make an informed choice. As far as the x vs non x. It was only like $20 more locally (I have a micro center near me. But waiting a week or so for a deal so that is still up in the air too. Thanks again.

CLs on ram stand for CAS latency or Column Address Storage Latency. The lower the latency, they better so typically the RAM sticks these days are all at CL16. There's actually nominal difference in CL15-16 so if you're a normal user building an okay rig for your kid, I'd buy this set or some G.Skil Ripjaws(I personally have these and have been solid for like 4 years now) and 16GB is good, but you might want to consider spending the extra and just getting 4 sticks in total for 32gb so that way theres plenty of ram for years to come.
Also, saves you some bandwidth so you don't have to download ram.
