Is this big enough for regular use, or more like a camping smaller usage? Been wanting a 36 incher
I use mine regularly and it's probably big enough to cook for 4 in one run. Cooking for more requires splitting up what you cook. I.e. cook veggies then meats, etc.

Thanks, family of 5 and mainly steaks burgers and chicken. Occasional veggies on side. So this should be sufficient

Anyone know how hot the cooking surface can get? The surface gage looks pretty thin, does this retain heat pretty well?

I feel like this is somehow a philosophical question. This is a cooking apparatus that involves fire. Being a manly man, I would say get the biggest one you can. The 36" with built in air fryer is on my list to watch for clearance deals.
Sounds interesting. Can you please send the link of the 36 inch with air fryer?

The 28inch be perfect for you. This one a little small for you family size. I have seen Walmart drop the prices on the 28inch to about $140. You're gonna want the extra space to keep food warm or cook more.

Got the "older" version without wheels.
Proper sear on meat to seal in juices much better than the grill.
Regulator is finicky, doesn't like quick changes or it thinks blasting propane into open air, cuts flow. Simple to reset, though.
Sealing in juices is not a thing.

All the sear does is give you a favorable crust.

I bought the 28" 3 burner Pro model with the lid, wheels, 2 shelves, paper towel holder and magnetic holder on clearance after Black Friday at Walmart last year for $125 (it was $175 on BF).

The grill top is thick and heavy cast iron so it will rust if you do not care for it properly but it can be cleaned up should you let it get that way with a pumice brick. I always spread a thin coat of olive oil after every use and havent had any rust issues.

Highly recommend these grills and at least the 28" model if you have a family of 4+. Hardly ever use our regular grill anymore and cleanup is super easy in comparison.

What amusing with your comment about sealing in the juices is thats what all the smashburger fanboys claim. Im not into the smashburger hype.. I prefer a fat juicy burger and a stuffed burger is more my thing.

Correction, they are actually cold-rolled steel griddle tops but you treat them like cast iron. I have the older 22" and 36" and keep the 36" outside. If you plan to keep it outside, I would recommend a hard top cover (which this 22 comes with), fabric cover for UV/more water protection and always apply oil on the griddle top after each cook. I have some surface rust underneath the front but you can always spray some high temp paint on the bottom portion to prevent rust on the non cooking areas.
