That's a fair assessment, but I think that is kind of the point of these backpacks. They don't have the stiffer back support specifically so they can be folded up and packed into a self-contained pouch to minimize the space they take up and the weight they contribute in a suitcase.
I think complaints that these stowable backpacks are flimsy or lack back support largely miss the point. These aren't designed to be daily use backpacks. They're intended as a quick and highly portable way to have temporary extra carrying capacity for travel or shopping. Or what I find them particularly useful for, which is a way to carry home a few bulkier items when doing errands on my motorcycle. Think of them more as a reusable shopping bag and less of a pack for school or serious hiking and you'll have realistic expectations.
For those complaining of no back support. Take one one or two of your Amazon bubble wrapped envelopes and place them on the inside. Now you have extra cushioning between you and whatever it is you are carrying. If the item really has sharp edges, then place it inside the bubble wrapped envelope.

I use this pack for carrying groceries, etc., whilst biking. It's a good budget minder also...If it don't fit, it don't get bought.

Would not recommend the 20L daypack...it has no back support

I ordered this backpack when it was on sale a week or so ago and already used on the hike.
It's very comfortable, has plenty of pockets.

I have two of the backpacks, I love them. Perfect for quick trips, we took one on a cruise when that was still a thing and it got daily use.

Will second that these backpacks are terrible. Ordered one and it was flimsy and not worth it at all.

I reverse your second. I love these backpacks on trips. I take a larger backpack and stuff this in for small hikes and day trips. They're also great from just going to a coffee shop. Super minimal and durable.

That's a good tip. I put a plastic rectangle in the laptop sleeve to give it support. Problem solved!!

And on the grocery front. When I go to the grocery they're always surprised when they ask me if I want a bag and I say no, then proceed to fit everything in this tiny thing.
