You play as Jenny LeClue, an aspiring young detective and obsessive pursuer of the truth. But nothing exciting ever happens in her small town, and she longs for a real adventure. Jenny gets more than she bargains for when her mother is accused of murder! She embarks on a journey to uncover the truth, and soon discovers nothing in Arthurton is what it seems. Jenny must use her skills of deduction and face her demons to find the real killer and unravel Arthurton's darker mysteries.
You're going to want to take it out and let it download updates anyway. Your kids won't be excited about the time needed to setup wifi and let updates happen on Christmas morning. If you have any physical games you can put each of them in and check for updates too.
Nintendo doesn't seal their boxes so it's easy to open, set up, and return to the box without it looking like it's ever been touched. Many people do that to set up gift consoles.
This is a detective/mystery/puzzle game with a 91% rating on Steam.
It also comes with the Spoken Secrets update from the PC version (adds new voice acting, movies, bug fixes etc.).
8-9 hour game, runs well on the Switch.

At least as a few months ago on PC, this was not a full game -- it just straight up ends in the middle of the story. They only recently added voice acting (to fulfill the last of their stretch goals from the kickstarter), so I assume that means they're now working on the rest of the game? Personally, I think it's really scummy for them not to mention that it's incomplete. I hope that means people who bought it will get the rest of the story without having to pay for it.
Since everybody seems to be talking about setting up a new console, remember that if you put off setup until Christmas Day all the servers are likely to be overwhelmed and nobody will get to play until a day or two later. Seems to happen every year.

This is true, but what they have provided is excellent. This is 8 hours of great adventure, puzzle solving, and investigation. I really enjoyed this on PC and after playing an hour on Switch I can tell it runs just as well. I hope we get the rest of the story, but I would be fine paying for a second 8 hour game this good to get it.

Just buy it in your account online and don't download it until you're ready. It just sits there until you install it...
