Most critical review from Costco says this:

"Reviewing the End User License Agreement (EULA) after downloading the app, indicates that Genie will keep the right to use your location and other information, such as when the door is open, closed, vacations times, etc. In particular EULA indicates that Genie will transfer such information to a country that may not have privacy laws."

Anybody have any input on this? It does have me a bit concerned, but I haven't found anywhere else on the interwebs of someone else reporting this.
I think the two features that the chamberlain offers that Genie doesn't is light turn on when you walk past safety beam and one touch close from the outside without entering pin.

I was hoping the newer Genie had it, but read here that it doesn't. I got this model anyway, and it's awesome. But only had it for two months. So can't speak for reliability.

Need a new opener as our 10 year old genie can barely lift our door (had a spring break over the summer and didn't catch it for a few weeks, guessing we overstressed the motor).

This, or the Chamberlain B970 (for about $60 more)? Not interested in the smart features, just want something reliable that I'm not going to have to replace again.

The garage door contractors that I've spoken to have said that the preferred brand is Liftmaster or Chamberlain and that Genie is one to stay away from. Anyone have experienced with these brands that can share why one is better than the other? TIA.

I bought one of these earlier in the summer at the same price. Installation was fairly easy. I did it in probably < 6 hours total. I have two bays and will buy another one at this price to match it, I think I could do it in half the time now. My original opener was a 20-year-old craftsman chain unit, so this is a noticeable improvement. I like the fact it notifies me when the door opens and closes. I have also used Alexa a couple times to open it. No real issues with it so far, but it is only a few months old.

I also agree with this about Liftmaster/Chamberlain, but after using this model for a few months, everything seems good so far for the price and features. I do prefer the Liftmaster/Chamberlain app over the Aladdin app though.

Ha. Did you have the same contractor as I did? The contractor I spoke to also said to stay away from Genie - and he was glad that I had a (low-end) Chamberlain being installed instead.

This unit is known to fail. Costcos return policy is pointless if you need to go through hassle up install/uninstall
