I have the detent anvil on my DCF894 and can take off the sockets by hand without a problem....

While the 899 gets you roughly double the torque of the 894, I would recommend the 894 if removing lug nuts is your application. The 894 is plenty powerful for that and you'll just be carrying around unnecessary size and weight unless you have a more demanding application. In a vacuum this is probably the better deal though.

It has a switch for 3 settings as well as a variable speed trigger. I pretty much stick to setting "2"

I have both now, thanks to a stop by HD during my lunch break. Of course the 894 is not the same league, but it always had enough torque for me to do any car repairs that I needed it for. With 330 ft lbs tightening and 600 lbs loosening torque, it is also still stronger than most full size cordless impact wrenches from other brands despite being half the size and deemed a "mid-torque" by Dewalt. I'm pretty sure the 894 beats Ryobi's top 1/2 impact wrench and probably most of the other brands as well save Milwaukee.

If they are both the same price, of course get the 899. But the 899 rarely goes on sale and I regularly see boxed, new 894's for less than $150 on eBay.

Got one yesterday from Home Depot. Amazon also had some in stock yesterday but it looks like both are sold out now. Keep checking as they may restock and price is still $199.
