Shucking is removing the hard drive from the enclosure to use it in PC or NAS (network attached storage) unit. I suspect the majority of people who purchase these shuck them. I also suspect WD knows this, and is happy to eat the cost of the enclosure in order to ensure they'll never have to service for warranty, as shucking voids the warranty (generally speaking).
Shucking is removing the hard drive from the enclosure to use it in PC or NAS (network attached storage) unit. I suspect the majority of people do who purchase these shuck them, and I also suspect WD knows this and is happy to sell drives they know they'll never have to service for warranty, since shucking them usually voids any warranty.
