What is shucking?
THERE'S ALWAYS ONE.

Shucking is removing the hard drive from the enclosure to use it in PC or NAS (network attached storage) unit. I suspect the majority of people who purchase these shuck them. I also suspect WD knows this, and is happy to eat the cost of the enclosure in order to ensure they'll never have to service for warranty, as shucking voids the warranty (generally speaking).

Thanks and sorry I was the one lol. I have a plex server and currently have a full 8tb and needed to upgrade. I just plug it into the back of my gaming pc and leave it on 247. Is there a better route to take than that?

In for 4 - free shipping, no tax.. $759.96. I just had a talk with the wife when Amazon Prime Days had the 12TB for 179... this is such a better deal. Glad I waited. Thank goodness for Slick Deal Alerts!

Do you know if those will go on sale and shuckable?
They're technically on sale right now at Best Buy but both models are sold out and not as cheap $ per TB as this 14TB.

What's the difference between this one and the previous sale on Amazon and BB for 12TB drives?

Curious - how do you fill 14TB?

I bought the 14 that went on sale last black friday-ish. Not sure if that was air or helium. Is helium better, or worse?
