SHR always uses one drive with the largest capacity for parity, so putting one 14TB in won't get you anything more than what the Synology has now. You will want to buy at least two 14TB drives. Replace one drive, wait for SHR to rebuild, then repeat with the other new drive. You will end up with 2TB more than current. If you were to replace all four 12TB drives, you would end up with 6TB more than current.

These won't get lower. BB does this every year, they offer the BF pricing a few weeks ahead of BF and then again at BF. I buy their BF special drives every year and upgrade both my servers and sell off the drives from the year before. It's the exact same scenario every time. This year it's the 14TB. Last year was the 12TB, 10 before that and 8 before that.

Going to return the 5x unopened 12TB drives i got a few weeks ago. I still might wait until after BF to open these just in case but this is a great deal that is hard to beat. Gotta love that long return window offered for the holidays for waiting on deals.

Before I shuck my drives i like to run a full disk scan on WD Diagnostics tool. It takes a while to scan larger drives but that way if there is any problems with the disk I can get it replaced without any hassle.

hijacking the post: need drive for home surveillance. Looks this won't be fit for the purpose? Don't see any drive deal for surveillance recordings.

If these really are the BF prices I wonder if that's the case for LG CX 55" and 65" if that's the case I'd buy now.

Also do u guys know the difference between this and WD Mybook? I have the mybook but it's only 8tb. Is this a good upgrade in terms of speed and specs that I don't know of?

I've been using my 8tb for my PS4 btw. I'll be using this 14tb for PS4/ps5

Please don't be that guy that shucks the drive and return it with a 500GB HDD inside. I've bought two 12TB Easystores recently from a local store with 500GBs inside.

Lol it's so irrational but I feel exactly the same way... There's two open spots in my five-drive bay but the other three are 8TB drives so for no particular reason I want to add 16TB drives down the line.
