SHR always uses one drive with the largest capacity for parity, so putting one 14TB in won't get you anything more than what the Synology has now. You will want to buy at least two 14TB drives. Replace one drive, wait for SHR to rebuild, then repeat with the other new drive. You will end up with 2TB more than current. If you were to replace all four 12TB drives, you would end up with 6TB more than current.
The golden question, what's inside?

Extended returns in effect if you're on the fence.

Purchases made October 13, 2020 through January 2, 2021 have an extended return period through January 16, 2021
These won't get lower. BB does this every year, they offer the BF pricing a few weeks ahead of BF and then again at BF. I buy their BF special drives every year and upgrade both my servers and sell off the drives from the year before. It's the exact same scenario every time. This year it's the 14TB. Last year was the 12TB, 10 before that and 8 before that.

Doubt it because this is a best buy specific model.

How is this still in stock
They've done deals like this for years at this point. They should understand the demand by this point.

They technically already have it "on sale" on their site. I doubt we see a BF type sale on them this year, at least not from BB. They seem to hit these drives in 2 year cycles. Heck they are still doing the 8tb drive each BF and selling a ton of them. Only good sale I see that might happen is coming from WD themselves. They have had some really good ones last year thru the holiday season.
They are just beginning to ship those advanced drives for the enterprise market, we certainly won't see them for the consumer market this year. Probably not even next year. Last year, they had the 14TB on sale for $200 in late December (at first $210, then $200). $190 is just $10 cheaper.

It's probably already been noted in a past post but figured I'd add that mine is a WD140EDFZ.

I think Best Buy locked it down to 1 per order sometime this morning. I ordered last night 5 at once, didn't even sign in. Now it says max 1, signed in or not, and to switch to a business account for bulk orders. Business account holders are saying its max 1 for them as well though
I ordered 2, then another 2 then another 4 between 1030 and 1130am. They said the limit was 5 per customer at that point when I tried to put 6 in my cart.

What worries me about this drive is the 1 review about how it makes a clicking sound when idle..I had the same problem with my 8TB drive when I used it for my XBOX ONE X console, even with the console in instant on mode the hard drive would every 2 min make a clicking sound then turn off..dont want that again but am concerned after reading that review
Sometimes harddrives die young. It has happened to some number every single model of harddrive ever made. It's not like 1 review means that 100% of the drives fail early.

Actually, great question, can these enclosures be used with any SATA drive? Or is it specific to WD?
Any drive. I have used Maxtor, Seagate, old WD, and HGST drives in them. Mostly I just plug the card onto a disk and use it externally without the case on my workbench.

Our data shows that the disk drives WD 14TB WD140EMFZ are NOT based on SMR technology, the disk drives are based on CMR.

This data comes from user reports

They're now limiting it to 1 per customer. It was 5 per customer earlier.
Thats good. I was about to buy a few. And then get killed by my wife. They saved my life with the 1 limit.

Try submitting a separate order for each, should work.
A. store pick up order with Paypal checkout (Paypal 1) ready to pick up
B. ship to home order with Paypal checkout (Paypal 2) in process (payment submitted to Paypal)
C. ship to home order with Paypal checkout (Paypal 1) shipped
D. ship to home order with Paypal checkout (Paypal 2) cancelled
E store pick up order (different store from A) with Paypal checkout ((Paypal 2) cancelled.

I didn't use any VPN when I place the orders. Only order A is placed logging into a BestBuy account. Their fraud detection system will cancel any order it defect any possible issues. Maybe It detected I placed more than 3 orders. Will try again with another Paypal account later today. I like to get 4 units today if possible but I am happy with 2 units and can always wait for the next sales.
