SHR always uses one drive with the largest capacity for parity, so putting one 14TB in won't get you anything more than what the Synology has now. You will want to buy at least two 14TB drives. Replace one drive, wait for SHR to rebuild, then repeat with the other new drive. You will end up with 2TB more than current. If you were to replace all four 12TB drives, you would end up with 6TB more than current.
The golden question, what's inside?

Extended returns in effect if you're on the fence.

Purchases made October 13, 2020 through January 2, 2021 have an extended return period through January 16, 2021
These won't get lower. BB does this every year, they offer the BF pricing a few weeks ahead of BF and then again at BF. I buy their BF special drives every year and upgrade both my servers and sell off the drives from the year before. It's the exact same scenario every time. This year it's the 14TB. Last year was the 12TB, 10 before that and 8 before that.

Last night, the order was closed both local and online order. This morning, I checked again this morning and the ordering is back open. Limit 1 per customer now. I used 2 different email addresses and ordered 2.

If needed, is a Molex adapter really a fire hazard???
Possibly. You want an adapter that is not molded. It's tough to tell from online pictures most of the time, you will need to read reviews. If you see the plastic molded around the wires, then it's a fire hazard. You want the crimped version, which looks like the wires going into the connector are "looser". As in someone crimped the wires onto the connector and then snapped the top piece on.

I don't know how else to explain it, but there are plenty of videos and pictures available.

Hardforum is a great place to buy/sell, but there is one restriction - you have to hit a certain post count before you can post in the for sale section. I believe Reddit has similar restrictions.

I'm sure you could sell photography equipment just fine on either of those methods. No restrictions that I'm aware of.

Should I do a full format of this drive or just a quick? Not shucking it for NAS, just creating a huge single point of failure. TIA.

No it's a placebo. Unless the transcode was done poorly, there's no way anyone can tell unless they use a magnifying glass against the screen.

720p upscaled content still looks fine for some types of content, particularly animated movies. 1080p is a luxury. 4k.. pfft waste of space
If you watch movies with frontal nudity with Eva Green or Monica Bellucci, you're going to watch up close and NO it's not a placebo— you can tell the difference between remux and reencode. If you're watching Joker, 720p is fine.

I ordered two and one box felt lighter than the other. Sure enough, the lighter one is defective out of the box.

The problem is that I plugged it into the computer and Windows did not recognize it. I went to Windows disk management and it prompted me to initialize a new drive that's only around 150gb. I tried on another computer and it was the same thing.

The box and item do not appear to have been tampered with and the other drive works fine. It's sold out at my local Best Buy and I can't even order another for replacement. I may have to reach out to WD directly.
Just ran CrystalDiskInfo on the one that's not working and it shows it as a 160gb hard with many hours of use. The box was sealed and the hard drive shell looks brand new. I never thought this would happen to me but I guess it's better to choose delivery instead of in-store pickup.

Mine just showed up via FedEx. Not bad to have in hand in about 24 hours without having to leave the house. Thanks Best Buy and OP

If the item is backordered does Best Buy charge when they ship or when you order?

Yeah, I just used a flashlight to check and I can see some pry marks up close. Best Buy really needs to verify their customer returns. I'm going back later to return it and hopefully they can track any recent returns.

But it really sucks because I was planning on migrating a few 8tb drives this weekend but that's on hold until I can get another 14tb.

I placed two orders within an hour of each other yesterday afternoon. One shipped yesterday and the other still says preparing. Is this happening to anyone else?
