I think this would be a great starter kit or a nice holiday present for someone who just started playing with regular legos. We actually have this already. My son played with it since 2.5yo. He is 6yo and still plays with it almost daily despite that he has had many other lego sets. The container box itself is quite useful and durable.

The 900 pcs kit above comes out to about to 3¢ per piece. Either way, it's still a good value. I might get one just for the new instructions and pieces that aren't in the LEGO Classics kits that I have for my kids.
