I've been watching Legion models/prices like a hawk for months, and I'm not really sure this is a deal.

The $999 one on Amazon has a MUCH better processor in the Ryzen 4800H. Sure, it's 144Hz vs 240Hz (330 nits vs 500 nits), but I'd much rather have the better Ryzen CPU over a "better" screen.

I'm still holding out for the 4800H + 2060 Legion 5 with at least a 144Hz screen, and at least a 512GB NVMe. I can dream.

Very much. This is still a good deal none the less. Because the $999 legion 5 was a 1660ti

Of course, If you're not looking for DLSS 2.0 though, the difference in performance is 3%~ between the two GPUs. I would absolutely love a 4800H/2060 combo but if they don't show up soon I'm grabbing the $999 4800H/1660Ti.

Man I actually regret a bit that I got the y540. I love the little tweaks that lenovo put in such as Fn Lock, full touchpad press etc. My wife actually had to get a laptop, so we got her the $999 legion 5. She has no regrets. I must say AMD has finally caught up

After upgrading from 60 to 144hz and then from 144 to 240hz, I would take the 240hz option every time. Now the real question is whether or not these specs can get 240 frames on games like Overwatch and Valiant, etc.

I think mfg overprice screen upgrades... Especially compared with hdtv spec for spec upgrades or even desktop monitor upgrades.

Overwatch is probably the closest you'll get to 240. Ive seen the 330nit, 144Hz screen in person on the Legion. It's a stunning display. Some people like the retina-searing 500nits, though. Totally fine.

I think even with these sidegrades, it still doesn't make up for the fact that it's not a Ryzen in the machine. If you're ONLY gaming, this laptop is totally fine. If you do any sort of productivity tasks, I'd look for a Ryzen machine.

The crippling factor is that the intel 750H CPU is terrible compared to the Ryzen 4800H. Asus g14 is much better. Also Lenovo forums are filled complaints about horrible support.

Best Buy will have the HP Omen 4800H model with 16GB RAM/1 TB SSD on sale for $950 during Black Friday. I'd say that with the larger SSD & priced $50 less puts it ahead of the Legion 5 @ $999. If the Legion 5 also goes on sale then the choice will be harder to make.
