Seems like a good deal. Any opinions on the quality of this saw vs the Dewalts, Hitachis, Rigid, Bosch or others that will likely go on sale this holiday season?

Quality is very good on these, but you can find them for less on Amazon sometimes.

I'm in the market for a miter. Hoping to grab one of the better deals of the season. Something tells me this isn't it.

Jet is one of the major players when it comes to professional grade power tools, so just about anything you would see with brands like Milwaukee or DeWalt. They're just not as popular wiith DIYer.

I'm torn, this or the popular Dewalt 779? I was planning to pick up the 779 during black friday if it goes lower than $350. I've never heard of Jet either until now. I like the color vs Dewalt's ugly yellow.

I have a Jet (or Powermatic) table saw, planer, and drum sander. They are great quality tools, typically a step or two above the brands you'd find at the big box stores.

But I unfortunately bought into the hype and got a DeWalt 12" sliding miter that I am very disappointed with. I'd consider it a construction saw and would never use it for woodworking. So I wonder if the Jet would be more precise or should I just keep using my smaller miter saws or table saw with Incra jig when accuracy really matters.

Which Dewalt do you have? I was planning to purchase the 779 later this November but then this showed up.

I have the 780, essentially it's the 779 with a shadow light, and it's pretty sloppy. I expected better precision from the DeWalt flagship, but maybe my expectations were just too high for a 12" slider.

One of these days I'll have to get to a Rockler and compare the movement of the Jet, but in general I think the smaller the better when it comes to miter saws - as long as it's big enough to cut what it is that you really need a miter saw for.

Thanks for the reply. I'll just give the Jet a shot. This will be my first miter saw. I've been using my brothers 12" harbor freight one.

Their website has one review with 1 star, so obviously not recommended.

There are 12 reviews on the Rockler website now, and they are all very positive. 67% - 5 stars, 33% - 4 stars.
