Some have claimed that by matching the onboard memory with the same size and specs might yield dual channel. Ymmv, and I'm highly skeptical. Mfg designed the Mobo to be CHEAP for a reason.

I would say "No," barring specific exceptions. Are you using your laptop for gaming? That's the only scenario where the dual-channel memory access will matter, if you don't have video card w/ it's own dedicated video memory. If you do, then you don't need to worry about it, and if you don't, you need to buy a fancier laptop before you try using it for gaming! If you bought a single large stick of memory for your single memory expansion slot, you'll get better mileage out of it by setting your disc cache in your settings to use up the entirety of memory not gobbled up by the display space; that way, you're minimizing the time the OS makes calls to the disc. Then all the programs will reside in the one memory space of the expansion slot. That is, if you're just a casual user like most of us. Real nerds will save their pennies for a more capable machine, either way... ;-)

Not sure if it's still true, but dual channel used to require matched RAM sticks, with the same specs and often from the same manufacturer/product run. Compatibility may have improved since I last checked, but you used to either have to buy pre-paired sticks or get two off the shelf next to each other and hope they were made in the same lot.

The same specs should work.. being of the same binning/production wasn't 100% either back in the day. This mainly applied to desktops as upgrading laptop ram was cost prohibitive and niche going way back. Mfg who solder ram should be kicked in the
ass!

No it will most likely not work since most MacBooks now are soldered
