Yes, just use a different email. Another thing (which is what I did). The Groupon voucher will have your new BJ's membership number - You can login into your existing BJ's account and simply update your membership number with the new number generated and continue using your existing account/email. HTH.
I have paid memberships at all three. Costco is by far the best (in my opinion) - their produce and meats are a cut above everyone else's. There are some items that Sam's carries that Costco doesn't, which is why I have both. I prefer the "Scan & Go" feature that Sam's offers (Costco doesn't). However, I've never had to wait in line at Costco - they are quick and easy. What helps is the cashier scan's your items in the cart and you just walk out after paying.
BJ's is smaller than the other two, so I spend less than a hundred bucks there. They have many of the items you find in Costco and Sam's. Their baked goods are different and not as much variety (and taste is not as good). Prices are comparable unless you catch a sale. I went last week and they were out of stock for many of the sale items I wanted. I generally only go to BJ's for sale items IF I am in town and close to one. The nearest one to me is 1.5 hours, so it holds less value for me to stop in every week or two. For $20, it's not really a bad deal; I see it as a lukewarm deal. I certainly wouldn't pay anymore than $20 for an annual membership.
So of the three stores in my order of preference: Costco, Sam's, BJ's.

Last time we signed up for a BJ's membership (about 10 months ago), we received well more than $20 in special coupons over the first few months. $5 off any purchase, $2 off produce, etc. More than paid for the membership.
Never been to BJ's. Are they as good as Costco or more like Sam's?

but after you do this, how do you get a new card with the new number?

You will have to visit the club (Member Services desk) and they will provide you the new card using the barcode from your groupon voucher. You can request an additional card for a household member.
That's not true. I have purchased stuff using all lanes (self-service as well as the other ones) after purchasing this myself today.
There's a chance - and I'm just saying there's a chance - that you may have missed the innuendo in the post you quoted. In fact, most posts in this thread have little to do with the deal, which happens every time a BJs thread comes up - whether for this place or the restaurant.
I was a BJ's member, but I let it expire. I was able to purchase this Groupon and update the membership number in my online account under my existing email address. Worked fine.
I don't have a Costco locally, but I prefer BJ's to Sam's Club. Sam's has a lot of goods for small business, but it doesn't have the same variety of foodstuffs, for example.
