The $15 plan that I found on Target.com has 500Mb, so why wouldn't that be a data plan as well?
My bad, "Smartphone" plan is the 1GB, I don't know what they call the 500MB plan

Trust me, if you want headaches and like to waste time, don't bother. Target stores in my area has NEVER been able to ring up/process these gift cards with activation deals.

Did anyone had any "good" luck knowing the process and getting the giftcards...?

Okay figured out. You have to buy a unlocked phone that's $100 or more, a Sim kit, plus an activation plan. Not a good deal move on.

Ohh.. it is not mentioned anywhere in terms and conditions... also can we not buy one cheap phone and do this?

Then change this device and reuse the same device for other sim activation?

I bought a pretty crappy Tracfone with one year of service as a backup. Never actually used it.
How do I get it unlocked? I googled, but it is really confusing.

If you've never used it you probably need support to intervene so call support. You're supposed to make calls or texts every few months or they make phone inactive.

The phone has to be active on Tracfone for a year.
Then visit https://www.tfwunlockpolicy.com/wps/portal/home
scroll to the bottom of the page & enter the phone # or IMEI/MEID.
Follow the steps from there.

There's a 60-day grace period if the line is no longer active.

If they haven't used the phone in a year it probably won't unlock that way. I have one that gets used everyday & should have been unlockable last June & I still have to call support - it's not always automatic.

According to what I have been reading, the rebate when you buy a phone is different than this one, and NOT a $50 offer. Also, clearly this is a BYOD offer. I am not saying it couldn't be a misprint or bad info.

That sounds about right
Yup, Tracfone (being bought up by VZ) is on its last legs...Might be a different company once they fully merge under one VZ entity.

TF is not on it's last legs - it's proposed selling it's (several) companies sometime late next year for 6.25 billion to Verizon - IF sale is approved by Feds. May or may not even happen - it's a pretty big deal, affects a lot of consumers & could take awhile.

Target should've clarified this deal.
