Fantastic starter NAS for PLEX usage. You just have to muddle through the confusing setup process first.

Can this NAS run 4k movies via direct stream with plex? I doubt it can transcode in 4k with those specs.

could this present itself via a cloud? (and not via a QNAP website but its own direct, for ex. it appears the Western digital stuff you're dependent on WD's site, not that of the actual UNIT you buy).

Please fix your title, I think most people will see NAP NAS and not even click on the link cause they never heard of it, lol.

Qnap cloud is the main and easy way. There are other ways to remotely access the NAS but they require a little more networking know how then most people have, or the ability to follow directions to a T which most people cannot do either really well. Here is a link that will help you out with it.

Incorrect, direct play if your using h.264 it will run things through plex fine. If I recall no HEVC and you should be fine.

Bought one. This seems to be the cheapest 2 bay NAS right now before Black Friday. I was going to buy the Synology 220j but this have better hardware spec.

is it a good idea to purchase two of these units, put two drives into each, (buy 4 drives of the same capacity) and use one qnap to recv data from pcs needing to be backed up, and use the second qnap to backup the first qnap containing the pc derived data?
