These would not be a good alternative to gym mats. They are not cushioned or pliable. They are basically a floating hardwood fir floor.

Keep in mind:
"Maintenance & care instructions: If the wood decks are used outdoors, we recommend treating them at least twice a year with wood preservative or wood oil. Without care, the top layer of the wood may decompose and lead to moisture-induced cracks in the surface or deformations."

Maybe good for indoor areas.

If you really want something for outdoor that is maintenance free, I just got these composite wood tiles that are a little more expensive but look great on my decks:

We use similar ones from Ikea as our welcome/floor mats for the rear sliding door entry way at our house.

We take our shoes off on these and they've held up for years.
