Reminder that RAM is not upgradable after purchase so you may want to purchase a model with 16GB memory if that is important to you

Underpowered? Seriously? Have you ever used an iPhone or iPad? Their speed is unparalleled in the mobile market. I expect entry-level MacBooks and Mac minis to compete very well with Intel's i7 10-series desktop processors. Intel has been sitting on its laurels for way too long.

Good reminder. Ditto for the SSD; I think they're all on one chip!

This comment is not meant to crap on Apple. I think moving to ARM architecture is appealing for many reasons and they will eventually get it right, but know that you basically a beta tester here with underpowered and gimped hardware. Also, apple released dick all proper benchmarks for this shift; just saying it saw faster and not even qualifying it with the proper use case and hardware scenarios. This iteration doesn't support 10 Gigabit Lan, eGPUs, and the Mac mini is no longer RAM upgradable. Great for Facebook and light video editing, but I'm weary for this at this time for professionals

FYI, it doesn't look like they offer any of the M1 laptop's with memory upgraded. 8GB is currently the only option available.

I cannot believe they are stuck on 8GB RAM and 256GB SSD as base. Was really hoping to upgrade my 2017 model but doesn't seem worth it.

He must have missed the part where the air run through 2 4k pro res video on final cut pro like its nothing while having no fans.
The problem is more on the third party development and how well they can adjust to the new chipsets.

So when we expect beefier models with this M1 architecture?

The m1 chip is more powerful than the 16 macbook pro i9. It's the most powerful Mac ever produced. App compatibility may take a few... You can use ios apps apparently.

Semi-professional video editing is not the be all end all. A single-use case scenario that, as I said, was not backed up by proper benchmarks and comparisons. If that's all you care about then great! this might be perfect for you.

Let's talk about performance with CAD, rendering floating point, virtualization, compiling code, networking, etc. This is super important shit that's just not sexy. ARM is VERY different than x86. It's not close to as simple as IT GOES FAST

256GB SSD??? Are we still back in 2010. I love Apple products, and I am very proud to own them. And they used to sell premium products with premium specs. It has gotten from bad to worse now. In 2020, 512GB is no longer fancy, it's a minimum. 256GB? Andriod phones can easily have that with a sd-card. Apple please, delight your users. I wanna love your products again.
