Is the brushless expand-it a smarter choice? I like that the 2008A/straight shaft has the edger built-in (vs an extra $70 attachment), and it's lighter to hold. Some reviews mention issues with the head or line though, not sure if someone here can vouch for that.

The expand it version is far superior. Its brushless, more powerful, longer, and more like a standard straight shaft trimmer. You don't need an "edger". Just turn the trimmer and hold it straight up and down and you can make a nice straight edge. Just like you would with a regular straight shaft trimmer. The length also helps for not having to hunch over as much so your back won't hurt. I have used the shorter one and I got rid of it for that reason alone. Killed my back..and I am only 5 foot 10. I decided to stick with my Redmax gas because it just works. If it ever dies I will get a battery one.
