I give up...and not because you're correct, but because you'll never understand. Wave
Yes it's too difficult to understand that if you're paying $80 for $100 product, what's the discount.

Again, stop thinking of Target card as a product, think of it as a $20 bill.

You bought an Apple Card worth $100 for $80.

But you've clearly made up your mind, so I can't confuse you with facts.

I understand this is difficult for myopic individuals, but some people judge their spending on a larger time scale.
Exactly. Viewing the immediate discount percentage while correct is short sighted because it fails to realize how one could potentially use the extra $20 gift card. It's like we're analyzing something in a vacuum rather than real life.

You didn't get $20 "back", you get $20 extra, that's why you cannot use it to subtract the original 100. You are actually paying 83.3% for the product because you are paying 100 for 120 worth of product. Your net cash out of pocket is still 100
Again, you're thinking of Target card as a product, not cash.

Since when can you use target GC money toward a Red Card bill? The $20 has to be spent on something going forward. I don't think it's a mistake that companies are doing it this way, it's a mental game that makes many people feel like they are getting a better deal than they really are. For the record I still pulled the trigger, good deal.
This has nothing to do with that. I think you have misread what I'm saying. I'm saying you could sell it to someone for cash.

The 20% and 25% part of your comment is right, the rest is not. That is IF you're considering target card as cash. You paid $100 cash, they gave you back $20 cash. That's a 20% discount.
Just to be clear, you are saying that you save 25% of your money when you spend $80 and receive $100 in value? Thus a 25% discount?

So according to this logic even $20 in cash back would not give you a 20% discount because eventually you are spending the cash. Smilie

Putting aside the $4 Red Card discount, this deal amounts a 16.67% discount, OR a 20% premium on your purchase, depending on how you want to look at it. Case Closed.

I'm being charged 96 dollars for 120.
That's only if you think Target card is not cash. If you think of it as getting cash back, you're being charged $76 for $100

If the promotion is 100 Apple Card for extra 100 target card, are you getting 100% off? Because that means you got something without paying anything, but you actually paid 100
