Yes, if you order through Apple.com online and pick up in store, the maximum giftcards that can be applied to the order will be 8 only. However, one way to work around that is added the giftcard into your AppleID account first www.apple.com/redeem - maximum amount you can have under your AppleID is $2000, then you can use the giftcards for the rest.
In able to add balance, either use apple.com/redeem and follow the steps or
go to Apple.com --> select shopping cart --> account --> "your apple balance account" --> Manage balance --> add money to balance/ redeem gift card voila!
Once you have added the giftcard into your "apple balance account" (reminder: only $2000 max), during the ordering process, make sure to sign in to your AppleID, and it will show that you have *insert how much credit you got here* and hit "apply", the credit will then apply to your order.
Scenarios 1:
Total order is $2200. Apply $2k credit from previous steps, then you "pay with Apple giftcard" to order…enter giftcard pin…and done!
Scenarios 2:
Total order is $2900 total. Apply $2k credit from previous steps, then "pay with Apple giftcard" to order …entering $100 gift card pin 8 times… pay $100 with debit/credit/paypal.
NOTE: you can use however many giftcard in Apple store to buy products if you want… however keep in mind, all shopping required reservations since they only allowed limited amount of people inside the store at once due to the pandemic.
NOTE **: Yes, you can use Apple gift card for anything, to pay for AppleCare+, books, apps, subscriptions, pay for accessories, etc. "treat it like cash" and yes, it has no expiration dates.

There is a 20 transaction limit on the RedCard when used at Target.com. In other words, you can place 20 online orders on Target.com per 24-hour period. There is no limit on the in-store purchase. Unknown if this limit apply to the RedCard with the MasterCard logo.

- Each card needs to be purchased as a separate Target transaction in order to get the Target card bonus for each Apple card.
- You can use the same Target account, no need to make separate accounts (unless you are trying to circumvent the new limit that seems to have been added today).
- You will get an order confirmation email immediately.
- Apple cards will arrive via email several hours to a day later. The email has a link to Target's fulfillment site which will then take you to the actual gift card code. From there you can either manually copy/paste the code or simply click the link and it should open up the proper program on your computer or phone in order to load the card to your Apple account.
- You will receive another email at some point that informs you that the email with the Apple gift card was sent. This email doesn't have any value.
- Target bonus cards will arrive a day or so later via email. I've found that they generally arrive a few hours after you receive the email I mentioned in the previous point above. Sometimes the cards will already be loaded into your Target wallet in the Target app, but the majority of mine have not been preloaded. The email will contain a link that will load them into your Target account. The Target app also has a button that will allow you to combine all the cards into a single balance for easier use.
- The Apple gift cards will trigger the bonus offers on the Apple site (for instance, buy an Apple TV with the Apple gift cards you bought from Target and Apple will send you a $50 Apple gift card).
- You can use the Target gift cards to buy other items at Target that have a gift card bonus offer, but you can't use them to actually buy more gift cards. For instance, you can buy two packs of laundry detergent which has a $5 Target gift card bonus offer and you'll get the $5 bonus gift card, but you can't use the Target gift cards to buy more Apple gift cards.
- You can load up to $2000 in total balance to your Apple account. Additionally you are only allowed to load $2000 total per day. So even if you buy something using your Apple balance you'll still need to wait a day before you can load more gift cards into your balance.
- You can apply up to 8 gift card codes during checkout at Apple.

20% would be if they were only charging you $80 for a $100 gift card. You're paying $100 for $120.

I gave up waiting and went and bought more cards in store - all of them thankfully redeemed to my account no problem. Bought the iPhone 12 on Apple's website and was able to redeem my gift card balance. Wish I had gotten the 4 cards I ordered online already because when I tried to order this afternoon - I could have picked up in store which makes the trade in a lot easier, and you get the credit on the spot. Now there is no in store pickup option available, so I had to order by mail - and will have to mail my trade-in back to Apple.
Traded in an iPhone SE2 from the $50 Cricket deal for $210 so I only charged $700 of the $850 (plus tax) to gift cards and let the rest go onto my credit card. Apple Chat said I would have to talk to them again to manually refund the $210 from the iPhone SE2 to my credit card instead of to the gift cards but that they would do it.
Will end up getting stuck with 4 extra cards, maybe I'll buy an iPad or just let it slowly drain off with AppleCare+ payments.
All told, I paid $899.94 after tax for the iPhone 12 128GB plus $110 for the iPhone SE2 ($50 for phone, $60 for the required service from Cricket) minus $210 for the iPhone SE2 Trade in and $150 from T-Mobile trade-in Promo, if you consider the Target gift cards as a subtraction to the price, I got $140 in Target gift cards, bringing the price down to $509.94 for the iPhone 12.
Very painful way to do this, but I guess it was worth it.
EDIT - I just received 3 of my 4 Apple gift cards in my email. Not sure what happened to the 4th one. Maybe it will come soon.
Also I wonder if it counts towards 3x point promo.
Recommendation is to go to the store to buy the Apple GC that makes $100 to get $20 Target GC instantly. Self Checkout process is easy and some of the earlier posts tells on how to use Self Checkout process.

I just ordered 9 Apple gift cards from Target with my Discover card. Discover blocked the last three transactions, then Target canceled those three orders. I confirmed the transactions with Discover, but when I reordered they were canceled again. My wife ordered 6 cards on her Discover card and all of them seemed to go through okay. We will try again tomorrow to re-order for a total of 18 cards. Once we have all the cards, we plan to buy one sim-free iPhone 12 and one sim-free iPhone 12 mini.
All things considered, this is about $210 total cost savings over the Walmart deal. Of course, some of the saving is in the form of Target gift cards.

I use my discover card and get 5% back on that purchase, so I get 80 bucks back.
Friday, Apple is giving $150 gift cards with the purchase of a Macbook Pro.
