Thanks, but my local subway doesn't participate in these promotions. Never understood why a franchise wouldnt participate, sucks for me
Looks like your friend gave you the same sob story all owners give to their customers. Difference is you bought it.
I've run into similar issues w/ coupons. That's why I just order ahead. If the places accepts the coupon code, then I know it works. I'd hate to get to the Subway w/ a scannable coupon and have them reject it.

One Subway near me does take in person coupons, but they have a sign with the list of eligible sandwiches on it. Guess better than nothing.

I typically order ahead on the apps (Taco Bell, Starbucks, Firehouse Subs) when I go places nowadays. Real time saver. Waiting in line or drive-thru can waste a lot of time. Order ahead and I'm in and out quickly.

To be fair,

1) that's the risk you take when opening a franchise store for any business model

2) Subway's are (or were) one the cheapest franchise models to open for business owners. If you don't have the stomach to deal with ups and downs in a volatile and oversaturated industry.....don't.
You're talking from the perspective of a person who has countless opportunities and can choose which one to take. Opening Subway restaurant is not a business investment. Very few go into this thinking I have half a million dollars and I would like to invest it into franchise. My friend got a bank loan to buy the location, worked there long hours for 3 years to get just enough money to secure a second loan because he believed it will get easier. He worked for another 2 years before being able to move on and sell his locations. With loan interest and franchise fees he barely made even on sale.

These franchises barely make enough money to cover the costs. A friend of mine owned two Subway restaurants for 5 years and he was making less then I did in my cushy corporate job while working 7 days a week for 10-12 hours a day with hardly any days off. And these promotions are not reimbursed to the restaurant by the franchise. So the owner eats the cost of the promotion or risks losing customers who think they are entitled to all the free stuff they can get their hands on.
"...think they are entitled to all the free stuff.." The customer didn't make their own coupon or walk in demanding free stuff without it. The franchise's gripe should be with Subway. They created it it fir the beneifit of the franchise in mind.

Everything at this store is open for everyone to cough on. The glass might stop a direct cough, but I read that there's a Covid cloud enveloping enclosed spaces.

Scary throughts
EEK!

Restaurant industry margins are tiny. Subway charges an arm and a leg in franchise fees. People who use BOGO promotions don't typically buy at regular price, so the restaurant doesn't gain a regular customer. All these factors pretty much make it worthless to participate. With these promotions, the only winner is the franchisor, not the franchisee. I've owned a franchise in the past (not Subway), and most of the time, decisions made by the franchisor are meant to increase gross sales and not improve profitability. There are exceptions, of course.

I was going to order through the App, but all the subs aren't showing. I want roast beef. Hopefully, in the store they will honor the coupon.

I was talking about attitude. Who do you think the customer will scream at when he is told that his coupon is not valid? The owner can't afford to pay for the promotion that some corporate schmoes created to get a fat end year bonus for themselves. Yet, it is the owner who will hear every vulgar word in English dictionary just because they can't give BOGO to a dude who probably makes more money then the owner, but still feels that everyone around owes him.

That's true of franchises in general. The avg. McD's location only earns about $150k/yr in the clear (that is, avg profit per store). That might sound like a lot, but if you own one of these places I suspect you virtually live there. And that's on top of the startup costs of $1-2MM.

Subway is a bit harder to find but it seems it ranges from ~ $30-$40k up to $100k - depending on if you basically live there or not.

The money in these places really is in scalability, but then it really is a full time and more job.

Why is this being downvoted? Their bread is clearly the weakest link.

Except in this case Subway has multiple lawsuits against them from their franchise owners steaming from approving locations close to each other even though contracts say they wouldn't, penalizing owners for minor infractions such as hand prints on windows or vegies cut the wrong size, asking their franchisee's to pay 4 percent of their weekly sales to the advertisement firm while taking away transparency, closing profitable stores of owners who complained, and the list goes on and on. Subway the parent company has only one thing on their mind and thats their profits regardless of how the franchise owners feel.

Here is one example of the shady practices of the parent org.

Well something like that shouldn't be tolerated. A abusive customer doing the things you described is thatbtype of person no matter the circumstances. They will get upset if the subway location ran out of meat was closing early etc etc. They would feel entitled to any exceptions. You're average everyday normal person is going to abused the workers because they couldn't get there way. It's just disconcerting and a minor inconvenience to most.

Sounds like you know an awful lot about your friend's business. Perhaps it is your failed business venture that you are so sore about. May I suggest simply taking the BOGO coupons next time.

I've been using this for a while. For me at least, the app works waaaaay easier with this code than the website.

When using deals like this My local subway cuts the portion sizes for scooped meats if you aren't there when the sandwiches are made or in drive through. The last 2 times I used this offer my sandwiches had about 1/2 the meat or a six inch worth of meat on a foot long. Sandwiches were mainly bread salad. The owners are often the ones working inside and they're stingy af.
