R-SIM is a SIM card add-on that looks like a really thin SIM card that mounts on top of your nano sim (or below depending on the model) that allows you to bypass the sim lock by hard coding a new ICCID that is unlocked.

You can buy the R-SIMs off ebay/amazon and they are usually $10 give or take.

It works reasonably well and the wiki talks about how to operate it, the only challenge is sometimes iOS updates break it and sometimes you need a new ICCID but for the most part it's great and allows you to use a SIM locked phone with any provider. and in this case you dont have to wait 180 days with Cricket to get an unlock code.

Keep in mind it is unlike the factory unlocking process which is permanent. Here you are dependent always on the R-SIM.

back in the day it also went by the name Gevey SIM.

As long as you have an old Sprint SIM card laying around (they're reusable)... and an IMEI from a phone that's compatible with Sprint's network, you can sign up for the $5 service (data only) or if you want to play it safe... $6 service (500mb data, 100 min). Pay for service, enter in IMEI and SIM card info, activate. You'll have instant access to a new phone number, pin to access port out info.

How do you check if an offer is pending? I also used CapOne but I fear I may have messed it up.

Just an FYI if you scan redeem the gift card into your apple account it is as good as money if you use apple to pay for things. I have my Hulu with Live TV for $70/month and Netflix for $12/month paid thru apple. Imagine if this thread was called get 65% off your cable bill for the next 2 years.
What is the surcharge for paying with apple gcs? They're increasing prices next month but might still be worth it.

Weird, I ordered two phones on Thursday evening - shipped Friday and it was delivered today. Not sure if Cricket paid for Saturday delivery but my T-Mobile iPhone also came today and I know for sure T-Mobile does not pay for Saturday delivery. Kudos to UPS!

Got one of these after setting up a line with Tello using a Sprint IMEI and SIM and porting from there. In the process of recycling the same Sprint IMEI & SIM through Tello porting in a VOIP line I don't want any more to rinse and repeat. My question is, can we open a new Cricket account in my wife's name, port from Tello again, and pay with a credit card in my name (I have a $25 credit on $30 with one of my cards)? Same address & there's only one Cricket number at our address (the one I just set up).

That would make it:

Line 1
$50 for the phone
$60 for 2 months 2GB
$30 for 3rd month to get 2nd referral (thinking about keeping the line for a while anyway)
$5 Tello line
-$25 referral from a kind stranger in Reddit
-$25 for the referral I'd send to my wife
$95 total

Line 2
$50 for the phone
$60 for 2 months 2GB
$5 Tello line
-$25 referral from me
-$25 credit card credit
$65 total

Plus any potential credits from sharing referrals somewhere other that SD.

If the additional referrals I give work the way I think, it might make more sense for me to just keep the phones with Cricket until a better trade in comes up (unlikely) or I can unlock after 6 months and use them to upgrade lines on my Sprint account (I have old phones). Worst case scenario I get 2 SEs for $185 ea. I'm not too worried about the 2GB data limit.

Anyone see any flaws / better approaches?

Looks like Illinois locations show "no walk-ins" on the individual store pages -- doesn't seem like I can trade them in locally

Northern Nj has no appointments available. How do you see no walk ins?
