R-SIM is a SIM card add-on that looks like a really thin SIM card that mounts on top of your nano sim (or below depending on the model) that allows you to bypass the sim lock by hard coding a new ICCID that is unlocked.

You can buy the R-SIMs off ebay/amazon and they are usually $10 give or take.

It works reasonably well and the wiki talks about how to operate it, the only challenge is sometimes iOS updates break it and sometimes you need a new ICCID but for the most part it's great and allows you to use a SIM locked phone with any provider. and in this case you dont have to wait 180 days with Cricket to get an unlock code.

Keep in mind it is unlike the factory unlocking process which is permanent. Here you are dependent always on the R-SIM.

back in the day it also went by the name Gevey SIM.

As long as you have an old Sprint SIM card laying around (they're reusable)... and an IMEI from a phone that's compatible with Sprint's network, you can sign up for the $5 service (data only) or if you want to play it safe... $6 service (500mb data, 100 min). Pay for service, enter in IMEI and SIM card info, activate. You'll have instant access to a new phone number, pin to access port out info.

I have a two lines (one account) family plan activated on 25th, the unlocking countdown stops at 179 days.
The sim is in the phone all the time. Another plan activated two days after shows 177 days.

Exactly same here. The one I activated on 25th is stuck at 179, and the one I activated 2 days after is at 177.
Chatted with Cricket and CSR told me the correct number of days remaining for my first line. He said it might be because of "technical issues".

Did anyone got any shipping confirmation today for orders placed yesterday? I wonder if we would need to wait until tomorrow for updates now?

I have the exact same issue. Stuck at 179 days when I should be at 175 or so depending on when a day starts/ends for them. I don't understand it. I don't want to keep this service if I cannot unlock it after 6 mo. so I am quite upset and worried.

What is the cheapest option to port out these cricket numbers after I have completed this deal to hold for long term for future deals?
If you don't mind me asking - why would you want to "hold" on to the number ? I assume it's to just park and you you don't really care for service.

Whatever option you pick it will not be cheaper than $6-8 which is what you can expect to spend on a burner port number of eBay etc.

Also you've lost flexibility with your "parked" number because you now can use it for a deal from only the other provider families.

Hope I'm making sense!

You can probably do two orders of 2 (if they go through) -- merge both accounts after activation

They're all on $60 plan anyways so it should merge as 4 for $130 -- not sure if they'll give account credit for extra amount paid (2 orders x $90 service each)

Don't downgrade and merge -- account credit from downgrade will probably be lost after merge

Not sure if it increases your chance of getting banned by Cricket from future online orders but up to you -- I'm not going to merge
Do you make the new account under the same name? How would that count as a new account if it's the same name?

Or do you make the new account under a different name? But if you do that, how can you merge the accounts?

How do we cancel this plan at end of 6 months? Apart from rsim any other way to unlocking. Ther are sites which are saying they can, any legit sites at that
Just turn off autopay - if you don't have autopay on then no action needed after you've gotten unlocked.

the account/line should go to "suspended" status when it doesn't have $ and then i think in 30 days the number is gone.

For people who are trading in for Apple GC, we're just gonna let the Cricket lines run out of balance for the first month and not bother canceling the lines with Cricket. Correct?
Correct - no action needed. Just make sure you're autopay wasn't accidentally turned on.

So the dummy accounts are under different names and you can just merge them? How does that not look suspicious to Cricket?

Question 1)
1. Xfinity Mobile might not accept newer numbers for port in
2. Assurance that you are actually porting numbers that have the needed history (for example, that have not been with T-Mobile in the last 90 days)
Paragraph 2)
Untrue. Example: voip dot ms.
I think that they have an upfront fee of less than $1, and the monthly fee is $0.70.
Granted, you do have to load $15 minimum at a time. As an aside, they are a good provider (tons of features that I could spend 15 mins writing about).

I'm sure it does but hasn't reached a volume of revenue leakage for them to put policies and processes in place to do something about it.

My gut sense is like with credit card manufactured spending eventually they'll wise up and make it harder and harder.
