R-SIM is a SIM card add-on that looks like a really thin SIM card that mounts on top of your nano sim (or below depending on the model) that allows you to bypass the sim lock by hard coding a new ICCID that is unlocked.

You can buy the R-SIMs off ebay/amazon and they are usually $10 give or take.

It works reasonably well and the wiki talks about how to operate it, the only challenge is sometimes iOS updates break it and sometimes you need a new ICCID but for the most part it's great and allows you to use a SIM locked phone with any provider. and in this case you dont have to wait 180 days with Cricket to get an unlock code.

Keep in mind it is unlike the factory unlocking process which is permanent. Here you are dependent always on the R-SIM.

back in the day it also went by the name Gevey SIM.

As long as you have an old Sprint SIM card laying around (they're reusable)... and an IMEI from a phone that's compatible with Sprint's network, you can sign up for the $5 service (data only) or if you want to play it safe... $6 service (500mb data, 100 min). Pay for service, enter in IMEI and SIM card info, activate. You'll have instant access to a new phone number, pin to access port out info.

hmm ok, when you say activate, do you mean like you went through the beginning setup of the Iphone? Or did you just put the sim card in and just had it at the hello/bonjour/etc. screen?

Did they ask any question on 4 phones? I am also planning to go to Apple tomorrow after activating the phones?

Appreciate your response here

No questions asked! Just don't act suspicious and be confident. You'll be fine. Smilie

If they give you any trouble (like a couple of people reported), just walk out with your phones and trade them in online with Apple. It just takes a couple more weeks to get the gift card, but you are sure to get them.

Good luck

If you don't mind me asking - why would you want to "hold" on to the number ? I assume it's to just park and you you don't really care for service.

Whatever option you pick it will not be cheaper than $6-8 which is what you can expect to spend on a burner port number of eBay etc.

Also you've lost flexibility with your "parked" number because you now can use it for a deal from only the other provider families.

Hope I'm making sense!
I don't really care for the service, its just since they are numbers I am working with, no particular reason to hold them, just its faster than getting it off of eBay to have you own, that was the reason why I was looking to purchase my own sim cards to use as others are with tello numbers and port out. eBay did not seem reliable (I did not use eBay for this deal too) I plan on holding cricket for 6 months to unlock the phones then will decide to let go of the numbers or park them elsewhere. I am hoping I can get 10 referrals to stay in cricket for 60 days and that should be enough credit to continue service for 6 months on 2 lines and get the lines unlocked. I don't need the service. About losing flexibility, that is true. I thought maybe there was a free option. I hear a lot of people use google voice, never have been able to figure out the pricing for it, I may have looked into it a year or two ago but it seems like it cost money to port in. Thanks.

(BTW: sidenote if helpful to anyone, I ordered two phones under one account, I only opened the first number phone in order to make the account and activate the port in and both phones are having their countdown timer going down each day. the 2nd line/phone is still sealed in its box. If this works I can leave the phone sealed for 6 months and have an unlocked brand new iPhone sealed, good for future use/info/deals.)

Go to visible for byod $100 if you have an unlocked phone compatible to visible. That way you park it for 2 months and make $55 each line
I was actually looking for this deal, I couldn't remember what deal had the $100 gift card with a port in. For the time being, I have to hold on to the numbers to unlock the phones, but if I were to move them can you move two numbers into one visible family plan and get 2 $100 gift cards? or is that deal 1 gift card per account? Thanks.

Visible doesn't do "family plans."

One email address, one account, one phone number.

If you need more than one line, you need to create multiple accounts with different email addresses, each purchasing a sim card individually.

(Yes, each BYOD line/account/email can qualify for its own $100 gift card.)

Can i buy 2 phones along with the plans for 189$ and cancel the service after i receive the phones and trade them in at apple, even without opening the box?
I think the best way to trade in is to open the box and dirty the phone up a bit. You will arouse suspicion if you trade in still in the box.

If you want an unlocked se, buy 2 se from cricket at 170 plus tax today. Then trade in them immediately to get 420 gc. Buy an SE from apple with 50 gc . So, in total, 170-50-20=100.
if you want to buy other apple products, buy as many se as you want. it is more than 50% off actually

IPhone se starts at 399. Total trade in value is 420. So, 20 is the bonus
