R-SIM is a SIM card add-on that looks like a really thin SIM card that mounts on top of your nano sim (or below depending on the model) that allows you to bypass the sim lock by hard coding a new ICCID that is unlocked.

You can buy the R-SIMs off ebay/amazon and they are usually $10 give or take.

It works reasonably well and the wiki talks about how to operate it, the only challenge is sometimes iOS updates break it and sometimes you need a new ICCID but for the most part it's great and allows you to use a SIM locked phone with any provider. and in this case you dont have to wait 180 days with Cricket to get an unlock code.

Keep in mind it is unlike the factory unlocking process which is permanent. Here you are dependent always on the R-SIM.

back in the day it also went by the name Gevey SIM.
As long as you have an old Sprint SIM card laying around (they're reusable)... and an IMEI from a phone that's compatible with Sprint's network, you can sign up for the $5 service (data only) or if you want to play it safe... $6 service (500mb data, 100 min). Pay for service, enter in IMEI and SIM card info, activate. You'll have instant access to a new phone number, pin to access port out info.
I bought 2 already. total cost $196 for 2 phones. trade in value of SE at apple is $210

Phobio shipped 5 of the 8 kits I requested last week. But I already traded in my 8 phones at the Apple Store. Now I'm tempted to do more..Stick Out Tongue..

But too much cash spent this month already Must... resist... Big Grin Big Grin
Do it buy more, set the limit. I'm at 9 and that's it for me. I ordered phobio boxes as well but only need to send in 2 right now

Just not sure what I'd do with that much Apple Gift card balance. Probably wont be throwing that much cash at Apple in the next 3 years once I buy my Mac.

Also feel a tiny tiny bit guilty for taking advantage of Cricket Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)

Is there a final consensus on what to do re: activation, (and potentially fulfilling the terms of the offer) ?

Should we activate online, and NOT put in the SIM?
Or Activate online, put in SIM and do a few test calls/texts?

Thanks all

EDIT: i see previous page that people were OK to do either. I'm going to be mailing them in, so I will activate and put in SIM just to be safe

I think this was mentioned way back in this thread.

Can someone tell me how long do I have to wait to reuse a sprint sim on Tello?

I just went to the Apple Store to trade in all 4 phones. One of them was unable to be traded in. The error message that popped up in their system said something like "unable to trade in due to upgrade within 180 days". That phone that I couldn't trade in was the one phone where I put the cricket sim card in to activate. Walked out with $615 gift card instead of $820. Ugh

Anyone else have a similar issue?
*UPDATE* So I read everyone's posts, and I went back to check the IMEI and my Apple trade-in receipts. It turns out that the iPhone that I was "unable" to trade was listed on one of the receipts that had been processed for trade-in. The rep that processed my trade-in must've swapped the phones at one point and gave me back a phone that she had already processed. Which is why when they were trying to process the 4th trade, they were scanning a phone that was already traded-in, and it was coming up with the "unable to trade in" error message!

I drove back to the Apple store, about 20 minutes, and explained the whole issue with the Apple rep. They went to the back storage and brought back all the iPhones and cross-referenced the serial #s to the receipts. We were able to get it all sorted out, they took back the iPhone that had the error message, and pull out the "untraded" one from one of the baggies that was misplaced and was able to process the last $205 gift card for me.

Finally I asked them to combine all 4 gift cards , so they combined the $615 + the $205 corrected trade-in, and I walked out with the $820 gift card. I asked them to scan the gift card to double check to make sure it is the correct gift card, since there were like 4 gift cards floating around on the table.

To everyone's point, you do not need to worry if you activated your Cricket SIM card with the iPhone. It looks like mine was a one-off situation because the rep mixed up my trade-in devices. ugh... but glad everything was resolved in the end. They told me they actually ship out the trade-in phones to be recycled at the end of the day so it was good that I went back to the Apple store today.

Also if you are going to trade in >1 or 2 iPhones for trade in, I recommend handing it to them 1 at a time to avoid any issues with getting the phones mixed up!

Think I will too. I have another Chase card with the $25 rebate offer, so $160 all-in for two.

What phone numbers did you use for porting? I used the eBay Boost numbers and I'm on my second day with that message.

Yes I was just as confused! since everyone was saying these locked iPhones shouldn't have troubles with trade in, but then the 1 iPhone that I had activated with Cricket SIM just so happened to be the one that the rep got mixed up laugh out loud .
