Not a fan of the new craftsman made in China. The new craftsman is garbage, change my mind.

Pretty sure this is a Taiwan set. Stanley has been using the same suppliers as their Dewalt brand while they get their Ft. Worth plant up and running. The Taiwan stuff has generally been better than the older Chinese garbage they were peddling with Sears and in the first year or so after Stanley bought them. I do recall seeing a test where a Chinese Craftsman ratchet held up to more torque than competitors, if that matters at all.

Any idea where to buy just the case? I Have a craftsman set (usa made) from years ago, but the case just fell apart (clamshell type).

I find them to be on par with Husky and Kobalt. The majority of my tools are Kobalt due to the 300 pc set with pre-cut foam trays. But I have Husky and Craftsman stuff too. I don't see much of a difference as a home owner/DIY-er. But I do try to get USA made stuff when they go on sale or are only a few bucks more, like Channellock, Wilde, Proto and the like.

Actually, you're paying for a craftsman spec: if the product does not meet chairman's spec, craftsman won't pay, why should they?

This particular set does not impress me either. Why did they waste the entire top tray and lid on 8 wrenches?? Not even a spot to add them once you fill in your set. If you check out the Kobalt kit that is the same price, they have a much more sensible case, and they have an empty tray, so you can add pliers and whatever else you need.

I used to love Craftsman, almost every tool I own is still Craftsman. I think this set, the case, is not awesome. Would have liked to see larger wrenches in there and this is the cheaper ratchets. overall, it's not a terrible start, but why saddle yourself/or them with this case!

Craftsman man here from their older stuff. Looking for something to lug around and I am leaning towards the kobalt 232 piece. Anyone see a reason to buy the craftsman over the kobalt?

I grabbed the Kobalt over the craftsman- that too box on the craftsman is a waste of space and the Kobalt has an empty bottom drawer that I filled with the accessory drive kit for another $25. So far so good - the box is crap but it will sit on my bench 99% of the time.
