The S5 is an older model. The S6 Pure is a great vac for those who have a multi level home, or a mix of hard floors and carpets/rugs, and don't want or need sophisticated mopping capabilities.

(By "sophisticated mopping capabilities," I mean an electronic water tank that is controlled by the app, allowing you to create the things like "no mop zones." For those features, but the S5 Max, on sale for about $80 more than this deal.)

If you have only hardwood floors, or only very tight outdoor-style rugs, or only a small 1-level home, then there are cheaper models than this (like the S4 or E4) that may suit your needs.

I have no desire for mopping, but I bought this S6 Pure last time it was at this price because it made it cheaper than the S4 Max. I just never installed the mop. It's been awesome. Highly recommend Roborock.

Got this in the last deal. The setup process was slightly cumbersome. Some things to watch out for:

1. You need to use the Mi Home app. The Roborock app wasn't working (at least for me).
2. Your wifi SSID has to be alphanumeric characters only, and you have to connect to the 2.4GHz band, if your router is dual band. If you have a mesh router, it should auto-connect to the 2.4GHz band.
3. You need to give the app precise location permissions (otherwise it wasn't connecting to wifi successfully).

After the setup though, I'm fairly happy with the performance. The app isn't very polished, but it does its job. The LIDAR is definitely nice though, the mapping is fairly accurate in terms of boundaries, and drawing boundaries in the app is usable. Haven't tried the mopping feature and don't intend to.

The hardwood performance on rtings is much better than the Roomba 960, which made me gravitate towards this one, that and the zone mapping feature.

Someone mentioned that in the chat. I'm scared that it doesn't hold the same backing as a roborock. I have been scarred a few times with robot vacuums.
I don't expect much from these things. I figure all of these items produced in China are just clones of each other. I don't expect these to last forever. the way I see it, if it lasts a minimum of 2 years, I got my money's worth.

If you are concerned about the brand, buy the roborock.

If you want peace of mind, pay $580 and grab the Roomba that is on sale at Costco right now since it's back in stock. Can't beat Costco's return policy.

My order was UNDELIVERABLE - they said damaged and returned to Amazon - was so annoyed but luckily the person I got my 2nd order for doesn't want it anymore so I was able to keep theirs. How annoying would that have been if that was my only one - its now OOS until Jan 8th and the price is $599 again!!!

Any tips for a first time robot user, going to straighten up and go for a first run later tonight!
The black version shows in stock for me and would deliver by December 5th. The price was always $599.99. They never dropped the price for the product. It just had a $240.00 coupon you had to clip. Usually those coupons don't appear again on the page once you place your order. Try reaching out to Amazon if you can't get the coupon to apply for a new order.

When it went OOS it went back to $599 - the white one actually had the price change vs the coupon. Don't want the black or else would have grabbed that one for sure. The guy in chat did say he could do a replacement, BUT it wouldn't arrive until Jan 10-12th - definitely not waiting that long. Ended up ok since we only really needed one, but would have totally sucked otherwise!

I am so tempted to put solution, vinegar, anything into it but will resist!

Maybe take a whiff and see if it smells like plastic. I'd rather have the smell of solution or vinegar vs plastic water smell on the initial use!

My parents bought me an iRobot Roomba 675. Should I return and upgrade to this? Will mostly be used on vinyl and carpet in a 2000sqft home.
Please stop buying outdated Roombas, 675 was far worse than my $90 Coredy that I got from last year 20% Amazon warehouse sale.

Its different topic that I have problem with Coredy but I will still take it over underperforming Roombas.

Good point! I've been using a vinegar/hot water solution in my crosswave for years and it works very well. Will be a welcome adjustment if this works in our apt

I think the roomba i3 is pretty good even though the floor tracking system isnt the greatest for navigation. Only problem is battery life, granted it charges MUCH faster due to be smaller. But yes, I agree on 675.

I have both i3 and s6 pure and will be returning the one of them. So far the S6 pure failed my cat hair test.. but to be fair, I haven't ran it at max power to give a more fair comparison since i3 runs 1 suction level.

Pros for i3:

- dual rubber brush and CFM setting is nice for cat hair, hasn't tangled.
-fast charge but 1800maH battery only.
-High CFM, (17) 1 setting though..
-self empty bin. its actually really good and works better than any competitor.

Cons for i3:
-Floor track navigation is a lot "dumber".
-need to buy filters/bags (granted you get an extra filter and bag with purchase. More expense) S6 pure requires replacing filter, but you can rewash for a lot of cycles.
-Degradation might increase cleaning times. Takes on avg 2hr 20 mins to clean, with 1 charge cycle.. so 3-4 hours to finish its job. IF you have your Roborock on charger, 1 cycle will complete in 1 hour 40 mins for same space.. since battery is bigger, doesn't need to sit on charger to resume like the i3, granted i3 is more hands off all together. Weird trade off.

Pros for S6 Pure
-Bigger battery, can complete whole house in 1 charge.
-LIDAR mapping is significantly better. Impressive watching this robot work. Navigation and going over runs is better than the average robot. (I3 does well too)
-Dust bin is nice, build quality is better than I expected.
-App features are nice. Room cleaning is awesome
-Has a mopping container and 1 pad. (havent tried)
-Finished cleaning house in 100 mins or 1hour 40mins.
-Can set rooms and times for specific cleaning, granted my kitchen and living room get mapped into 1 area. (Not sure if i can zone off 1 specific area for cleaning, but ill play around with it).

Cons for S6 Pure
-Cat hair gets wrapped around brush on balanced setting, need to test max power for a fair comparison with i3. (both do around 17~ cfm)
-Battery takes SO long to charge, But this only really matters if you want to consistently clean I guess. So id have to mess with it more.
-No dust bin like i3. Roomba is leading the industry here, but thats the biggest benefit.

There's going to be more pros and cons, but this is actually really hard for me since the cat hair getting wrapped around brush is a big draw back personally.... I'll def run this roborock at max setting to see how they compare and if the power draw impacts cleaning times and recharge and resume.

Tough... I like the roborock better in terms of features, but the Roomba seems more practical at the same time even though its worse in a lot of areas. On carpet, Roomba wins.

How is S6 pure compared to S5 max which is on sale. I have hardwood floor of 80%. I am confused.

Thanks.

As I mentioned earlier, the S4 Max and the S6 Pure are functionally pretty much the same vacuum. The difference is the S6 Pure's basic mopping functions. Since the S4 Max is in short supply and not on sale, you could buy the S6 Pure and just not install the mop.
Does hair get caught up in these rollers easily? If so, is it a pain to remove the hair? For example, I won't have to whip out a razor blade to remove some tangled hair I hope.

Lower, even on max power. Roomba i3 is just a louder vac.

Anyway 2nd run.. S6 pure finished in 1hour 21mins mins. Roomba takes 2hr 20mins with multi charges.. meaning at minimum 3-5 hours (due to having to recharge and not completing job in 1 run) as a trade off for "better cleaning" and self empty.

Edit:

I say better because the i3 navigates by hitting every corner and does a slower job with a better "vacuum" design, but its a lot dumber in terms of actually "working" and getting out of the way.

I can run the S6 pure then clean and empty it under 2 hours while the i3+ requires much more time to complete.

i3 is more hands off in a sense that you don't need to check the brushes and bin as much (Self empty bin also cleans the filter to an extent., but its more error prone in terms of getting stuck in real environments.

It's a really weird trade off because I think both have their merits. I noticed the i3 takes longer when theres humans around walking in front of it. I assume the IR bumpers are calculating extra steps for avoidance.

As a bot on its own, I don't think the i3 is worth more than $200-220 bucks.. The self empty bin combo of the i3+ does make sense though. Especially since I only paid $360 + tax.

I am enjoying the Roborock features a lot more though. Even if it doesn't "clean" as good.

tl;dr:

i3 is a better vacuum, and s6 pure is a better robot and is what people expect out of a modern device with per room cleaning and voice assistance to tackle jobs. Thats at least my experiences after messing with the two devices.

If you have mostly carpet, just get the i3+ since its around the same price. Deep cleaning on roborocks arent as good. I purposely spread fine grain salt on an area rug and the Roborock was significantly worse at pickup.

S6Pure Vs S4Max

So here is what im looking for
Decent Vacuum under 300
Has mapping
No Go Zone so it doesn't go over carpet that cannot be vacuumed
I dont need a Mop

Everyone is saying jump on the S6Pure since its cheaper than S4Max right now and dont use the mopping

But on amazon

S6pure $391.94 after tax
S4Max $348.39 after tax

Im confused.
I'm debating btwn these two models as well. I just read this so I'm guessing the S6 pure also doesn't return to the dock to charge up and finish a job after reaching 80% but maybe an owner on here can respond to that feature:

One feature that it doesn't have compared to the likes of the S5 Max and the S6 Max is that it will not top-up its charge to complete a job - on those more expensive models they return to the dock when they are running out of power, get to 80% and pick up where they left off.

The S4 Max is a superb pound-for-pound option for anyone looking beyond the bargain basement models on offer in the ever expanding world of robot cleaners; it hits the perfect sweet spot of price and performance.

https://www.the-ambient.com/guide...ersus-2311

Edit, this video review of the S4 Max says it will go back to the dock to recharge and resume cleaning afterwards: https://youtu.be/PM_e0AAJZmE?t=228

This is the best comparison sites of side-by-side features I've seen for robot vacuums:
https://smartrobotreviews.com/com...,2778,2840
https://vachq.com/roborock-s4-max...ck-s6-pure

I'm torn between the S4 Max and S6 Pure solely because the S4 Max is the latest one (came out in Oct 2020) and I can't find any definitive reviews about any improvements implemented since the S6 Pure came out (Jan 2020). I'm so torn that I just ordered both but the S4 Max won't arrive until Dec 17ish.

Build quality seems better on the roborock. Only thing i can comment on since I didnt technically try the t8, but looked at one at the store.
