Excellent deal on an excellent drive!
I bought the 512GB 950 Pro years ago for a little under $300

The bigger poopy part of it is that these "super fast" devices aren't really very impressive in real world activities. You're shaving seconds off of computing time daily with them.

Does anyone know if this (or the Hynix P31 Gold) will work in this laptop?

https://slickdeals.net/f/13709582-motile-14-performance-laptop-fhd-amd-ryzen-5-with-radeon-vega-8-graphics-thx-spatial-audio-tuned-by-thx-display-8gb-ram-256gb-ssd-hdmi-front-720p-hd-ir-camera-299

Sorry if it's a noob question -- will be my first time installing a SSD in a laptop and I bought this guy when I saw this deal. Laptop came with only a 256 SSD and looking to add space for not a ridiculous price. It looks like it has an unused M2 slot so I assume it would work?

No one believes me when I tell them this. I remember when SSD's were first coming out someone showed booting from a RAID of them and it taking a few seconds. I bought a OCZ 80GB one and it was like 70% of the time it took to boot from a HD at the time.

I have a Samsung 950 pro m.2 now and it probably boots into windows in 60% of the time a modern quick HD would take. Most of my gaming is Broodwar and QuakeLive so level load times aren't really affected. I mean it's neat having the boot drive being married to the mobo but my life isn't massively improved.

If you have an AMEX card, check to see if you quality for this current promotion for 20% off. This only works if you have an AMEX card that gives you MR (member reward) points. If so, you could potentially get the 500 GB version for $48 or the 1 TB version for $104.

I'm not a tech guy, is it easy to transfer OS from ssd to this? Just simply copy and paste all the file? I have window 10 OS running on Evo 860..

No, you cannot just copy the files from your old drive to the new drive. That will not work. You will need to use software to clone your old drive to your new drive. Hope others can chime in, but I believe a viable free cloning software is http://clonezilla.org/. I have personally never used them, so I cannot comment how good is the software.

To me, I find it easier to just do a clean install of Win10 and reinstall everything else. If you can install/replace a hard drive, I think you will be fine reinstalling the OS.
ousilly1 is correct. You will need cloning utility that can copy the boot sector from your old HDD. I've bought 3 Samsung SSDs before - I think they all come with cloning software. I know atleast one of the drives I bought included it. Or you can simply download the latest version from Samsung.com. It's called Samsung Data Migration Tool and you can get it HERE [samsung.com].

As for Clonezilla, I personally haven't used it so i can't say one way or another. I personally like Macrium Reflect [macrium.com] in the free category. I've used it several times and it's reliable. I started out using Acronis True Image years ago (they do not have a freeware option) - and now there seems to be about 12 or 15 other companies out there that produce similar utilities. I will tell you that the free version of Macrium Reflect is not as feature rich as the paid-for version but it's just as reliable and if all you need is to clone a drive, it will get the job done. But seriously, all of this unnecessary because as I've mentioned above, you can use the Samsung Data Migration Tool.

Just saw this before hopping onto SD and I almost started drooling. Funny how excited us SDealers get seeing 10-30 bucks drops. I paid $87 for this back in Feb for my first PC and I'm just like damn over the $27 less it is now haha shake head

Anyway, a few people have said the WD Black is better. How?

I haven't seen that in the Amazon reviews or myself when I put a WD Black NVME SSD in a Dell Optiplex. Fast CPU for a workstation btw, i5-8500. Maybe it was the mobo? I'm no tech expert.
