Mixed reviews (mainly due to a bug with the HDMI chipset that causes issues with 4k/120 gaming), but this is the cheapest it's been. Manufacturer's savings is valid 11/23/20 through 12/27/20.

Just saw this on the AVR forums from Crash1977:

"Hi,
Just got this reply from Yamaha about their release schedule for the firmware

Regarding new RXV4A and RXV6A receivers

Important to note that these new resolutions and the HDMI2.1 features are not active out of the box. There will be multiple Firmware updates as the actual contents become available... The reason for this is that Yamaha chooses to test and certify all features and resolutions before releasing. Also note that none of these resolution sources are currently available.

Here's the proposed Firmware update schedule:
4K120A - Firmware update April-June 2021
VRR(Variable Refresh Rate) - Firmware update March 2021
ALLM(Auto Low Latency Mode) - Firmware update April 2021
QMS(Quick Media Switching) - Firmware update April 2021
HDR10+(Dynamic HDR) - Firmware update April 2021
QFT(Quick Frame Transport) - Firmware update April 2021
8K60B & 4K120B - Firmware update September 2021
Dolby Atmos Height Virtualization – Firmware update April 2021

We've been made aware of an issue related to certain emerging video signals (4K/120Hz etc) from certain sources that can cause a loss of picture and sound when passed through the AVR. However, from the time we first announced our 2020 AVRs, we have stated that we will support such new formats via future updates. Please rest assured that we will address the reported issue as part of these future updates including permanent solution as needed."
We're still within 90 days to return. I put in a price match hoping they'll realize we can return and rebuy and it just makes more sense to price match the difference. I'd have to ship back, so they'd have to eat the postage, too.

And even if not, I'm still pretty happy with the purchase. I'm a bit more worried about 4k/120 still not working and what Yamaha will do to correct the problem and when, but at the end of the day, it's $400, so I'm not going to sweat it too much.

EDIT: From an AV forum---

Best bet right now is to use 4k/60 or to use eARC if you've got it. Personally, I can wait it out. I don't even have 4k sources right now to hook up, let alone 4k/120. Once a fix is in place, I'll have it repaired or updated or whatever. As cynical as I am, I don't think Yamaha will risk the hit to their reputation to not fix this. Denon and Marantz are in the same boat, though that doesn't mean Yamaha will act the same way or implement the same fix. But I imagine if the root cause is the same and it comes from the chip these systems all share, then he fix will likely be the same. These companies are going to be pushing for a fix from the chip maker, which gives me confidence something will work out eventually.

Lots of problems with HDMI switching and picture not showing up on mine... this also has a HDMI 2.1 issue that (allegedly) an update is coming Q1 to fix... I'm holding on to it for now given Costco's return policy.

My Pioneer VSX 1021K just died. Wonder if I should pick this up? Seems like a good deal but comes with a ton of issues.

Hello James,

We've been made aware of an issue related to certain emerging video signals (4K/120Hz etc.) from some sources that can cause a loss of picture and sound when passed through the new Yamaha AV receivers.

From the time Yamaha first announced our 2020 AVRs, we have stated that we will support these new formats via future updates.

Please rest assured that Yamaha will address the reported issue as part of these future updates including a permanent solution as needed.

At this moment Yamaha has not announced the release date for the firmware upgrade to support 4K120AB and 8K60B.

If your unit has network connection, you will get a message when the firmware update is available for network or USB update.

You can also check downloads and support section of the RX-V6a product page:

Support: RX-V6A 7.2 channel 4K / 8K AV Receiver – Yamaha USA

Let me know if you have any further questions.
Best Regards,
The Yamaha Support Team

Buy a new one and return it to store without unpacking with old bill.

Call customer service today. They're making some exceptions because of Covid to adjust price over the phone or even online.

Some horrible reviews. I would definitely think twice. Maybe it's better to stick to Denon AVR-S750H 7.2-Channel 4K AV Receiver. It was the same price last month but seems to be out of stock in the moment. IMO.

It actually said it was approved? I did my adjust on mobile and I don't recall seeing anything that confirmed one way or another. I didn't even get an email confirmation. There doesn't appear to be any way to track the request unless it shows on the order once the adjustment is made. I'll probably try to call later today.
