Alternatively you can get the pro series 6-qt one for $250 if you think it's worth the extra. Not saying it's better, just giving another option for those that want something slightly larger. Keep in mind it's a lift vs tilt so you'll need more space

The issue for many is convivence, practicality, utility and counter kitchen space.

The 6 quart one from COSTCO is, regrettably humongous, relatively, and it doesn't work well for small and medium servings. If you have a large family - more than 6 persons in the household then the COSTCO one comes into play.

For one, the Target deal is sold out. Second, the Target deal while having a more powerful motor takes more space (larger footprint). Unlike the Artisan, it also doesn't have a plastic protective guard to prevent dough dust settling all over the kitchen. The Pro comes into play only if you are kneading bread dough 4 or more days a week.

Cross referencing this other deal so you can get additional gizmos for the machine is you want to soup things up. My hunch is that if you get the mixer and accessories for your GF (who likes cooking), she will likely go down on her knees in appreciation.

Same here, Pro series is unnecessarily large for us. Searching for the artisan on the website shows that Macy's sells the Artisan in Empire Red, Contour Silver, and Aqua Sky. Hopefully they all go on sale, we're after the silver.
You are in luck. It is now live. Go for it before it sells out!

like i said, giving another option rather than knocking on your deal. everyone's counter space and use case is different so i agree that it depends for each family. i gave you a TU for yours.

Does anyone know if this model is better than the KitchenAid Professional 5 Plus Series 5-Quart Bowl-Lift Stand Mixer that was on SD a couple weeks ago for $180? I have that one on back order but honestly don't know anything about these things. I just know my wife wants one so I'm trying to fulfill the "happy wife happy life" mantra this Christmas lol.

Thanks in advance!
You are in luck. I would say, yes, it is better than the Pro. Read through this thread.

I do like the COSTCO one and the only thing holding me back was the size. It is really a good option for larger families, hands down. I have often debated whether to go for more powerful ones (better bang for the buck), and most often I do, but this is a rare instance when I actually decided that maybe this time around I should be more practical.

It came with a book of recipes for things I never heard of, but I just use it for mixing bread, bagel, pizza and pretzel dough. Bread makers are cheap... you don't need one that mows the lawn for what I use one for. Now, will any of these mixers do it? Of course.... but wears on them, a bigger pain to clean up and there is no heat for rise if required, that requires more steps.... and that is provided you just don't go ahead and bake the bread in the bread maker.

PS: I went down that rabbit hole and own a one time use Pro Lift.... you know, more wattage, more power, stronger, all metal gears that was a lie, etc. But, nobody mentioned it was a total pain to use over the Artisan.
Thanks for making the point about the Pro Lift Vs. Artisan Tilt. That question would likley come up a lot when one researches KitcheAid mixers

The artisan is way lighter and more convenient than the Pro. It fits on countertops under cabinets as well. The pro does not

We had the pro and my wife returned it because it was so loud. We're happy with the Artisan, easier to store and move around.
