Great magazine, but it's more of a newspaper (comes weekly and provides very detailed reporting across the world of happenings). It is a difficult read, I find myself often looking up words and more often than not, by the time I'm 1/3 of the way through, the next issue arrives.

The app/digital version is pretty good if you like to listen to it. Everything is read out loud by a human and not just text to talk type of thing. I personally prefer to read and I think if you don't care about the audio part, I would recommend the printed version.

The digital version is already available for free via library, but the only downsides are that it's like a digital pdf so hard to read on a phone easily, and as mentioned there's no audio in the free library version.

Also, while this is a good deal, it's their standard deal they have a few times a year. I think the lowest I've seen is $44. Sometimes you can use airline miles for a subscription too, but not sure if that is available as easily these days. This is a good price, it won't really go lower, but you will probably be able to get it at this price in a few months if you don't want to purchase now. If you are interested, I would get it now as their year end issue in December is quite well written and this year should be particularly interesting given how 2020 has been.

Getting this thing delivered every week becomes overwhelming real fast. It's not something you can skim. Unless you're a VORACIOUS reader, you will be overwhelmed. Mark my words.

I'm 6 months into a digital-only subscription with them from Discount Mags.

Anyone know if I can buy the digital+print subscription here and use the digital part to extend my subscription? Or am I just gonna be wasting 6 months of digital?

Crazy. I was just talking to my brother and he was telling me that he is a big Economist reader. I just added this to my NYTimes, WSJ, and LA Times subscriptions. Let's see if it is as great as he says it is.

To me the best part of the subscription is the audio you can get from the app (or the website). Each article when read aloud is usually around 10 minutes long, and is suitable for almost any occasion -- short drive, cooking, shower, taking a walk etc, especially if you have a Bluetooth speaker and headphone.

Also, there is a "Economist Radio" podcast (free) which has "Intelligence", "Babbage", "Money Talks" and recently "Checks and Balance" programs. They feature some really good reporting and discussions, and often have important guests on the show.

I agree with all the comments on this being a tough read. I break each magazine down to about 15 or so pages over 4 days. I am currently behind and finishing up the last section. This week's hasn't come yet, but it will and then it's back in it again. Lol...I'm thinking if I should continue or switch to something that doesn't require too much commitment.
