TracFone Holiday Promo: 10,000 reward points with new activation (BYOP eligible)

https://rewards.tracfone.com/add-line (need to login to your TracFone reward account)

TracFone sent out an email yesterday saying you can get 10K reward points with any add a line. I haven't tried this for a brand new account, I already have an account and I can see 10K points pending for my new add a lines. I did one BYOP ($29.99 SIM kit from eBay two months ago) and one TracFone phone bundle from QVC.

1) 10K points are added as soon as you activate and add the new line to your TracFone account
2) Points become available for redemption after 60 days of continuous service
3) Max of 4 new lines per account can take advantage of this offer

The easiest way to take advantage of this is if you're already a TracFone customer and activate a new phone/SIM. If you aren't a TracFone customer, the safest way is to activate with a referral from someone already on TracFone (you'll get anywhere from 5-8K reward points) then you have the option to add a second line for 10K points.

1,000 points is worth roughly $10. So 1K points will get you a $10 refill/add-on, 2K will get you a $20 unlimited plan, 10K will get you a $99 annual card etc.

Possible hot deal combinations:

https://slickdeals.net/f/14589337-tracfone-two-lg-k31-rebel-5-7-hd-w-1500-minutes-texts-data-hsn-free-ship-two-pack-phones-99-99?v=1&src=SiteSearch - two phones with 1 year of service each for $100. Throw in up to 20K reward points for both phones and that's four years of service total.

https://slickdeals.net/f/14590009-hsn-samsung-galaxy-a01-5-7-quot-tracfone-365days-w-1500-min-text-data-for-59-99-ship-free?v=1&src=SiteSearch - one Samsung phone with 1 year of service. Throw in up to 10K reward points and that can be two years of service for $60 total, including the phone.

Now is the time to activate if you have a preloaded BYOP kit sitting around. I guess you could also do a $1 SIM kit and a $20 PAYG plan (90 days service) to get 10K points on an existing TracFone account as well, using it as a throw away # for 3 months.

TracFone customer care is horrendous but I have my main service on an eSIM and TracFone as a spare line.. works really well for things like Craigslist. FYI: Verizon plans to acquire TracFone in a multi-billion dollar deal. Should be interesting: https://www.theverge.com/2020/9/1...nes-budget

TF customer service via chat has always been excellent for us.
Note: based on our experiences with Sprint, TMO, ATT, and Visible.
Yesterday, activated a new preloaded sim and transferred talk/text/data to pre-existing line/#.
10000 reward points showed pending immediately.

Got the same email for my spare line (used to park a number I want to keep, and as backup service on AT&T when I am a T-Mobile user for my postpaid service).

I bought a 1200/1200/3GB SIM kit on eBay from them last month when it was on sale for $30. If they offer that deal again (fingers crossed), that would be great for existing subs (it's ~$50-60 usually). This way, you can use the full service, SIM swap as you wish, and get the additional rewards.

If not, the A01 is the next best deal at $39.99 after coupon for new HSN customers, per the link above, or the $20 PAYGO kit for anyone that doesn't need the phone.

As noted above, this is an ADD A LINE deal for your current account.

When I click on redeem points, all the options say coming soon. Is that because the rewards program is new? Or is that because the points from my 4 referrals have not cleared the 60 days?

Yeah, seems like a half-assed implementation of a program to me. I have over 35k and can't redeem them for anything yet.

"When will my points become available for Adding Lines?
Awarded points will take 60 days to process. Existing line(s) and new line(s) must be active for pending points to become available."

Look like 60 days. I have some coming to that point in about a week, so I guess I'll see.

I got the same SMS on one of my TF lines, it's an old offer that I got when activated the E5 from HSN a month ago.
Now, if I can only add the Moto G Power from the Amazon deal for nothing that will great.

I would like to order a new sim for iphone for mom. If someone sends me referral would I get 5K plus the 10K? what is the cost of the new sim, and how many days of service would I get in total?

There's a discussion over at HowardForum. It seems like the iOS app is currently the only way to redeem points. Also, it seems to take twice as many points as they show on the web site (so 1000 points for 1 GB data, not 500).

But it's a relatively new program, so I'm sure things will change over time.

Quick questions. I'm not a customer of TP. Do I need to create an account to see that benefit? I mean points?

TP is used to wipe.
TF is used to call home.

Yes you need an online account to earn/manage TF points.

No, I don't think you can double-dip. I believe it is one or the other, based on your current status:
  • If you are not an existing TF customer, then you could get the referral reward for the initial activation / sign-up to the rewards program, but not the add a line promo on your first line.
  • If you are already a TF customer, then you can get this promo by adding the new line to your own rewards account (but not the referral bonus). If you don't already have a rewards account, I would create that first with your existing number, and then add the new line shortly thereafter.
If you are new and activating more than one line, then you can get the referral on the first line, and the add a line on any additional lines.

The cost of the SIM itself is 99 cents, but you are FAR BETTER OFF getting a preloaded SIM on eBay. As I noted above, the 1200/1200/3GB SIM is a year of service and these total allowances of each of talk/text/data for the year (not each month). It was $30 on eBay about a month ago, and I would highly suspect it will come back at that price in the near future / during the holiday season.

You can then use the rewards down the line to add talk/text/data to it.

I think the 500 points scrolling advertisement for 1 GB of data is an oversight. Everything in the rewards program seems to be based on 1 cent per point (though I'd be really happy if they dropped the data to $5/GB). So any TF plan/add-on should be purchasable with points, with points valued at a penny each...
