499.00 on sale for 299.00! May need to put in East Coast ZIP for real to show. I'm in Ohio. Pretty decent deal on the size of safe verses the price. Also at time of posting still allowing deal via online order rather than having to go to store. Happy hunting!

Silly question did you know this by calling the stores or assuming because there is a shipping charge to each store?

I'm trying to figure out if stores had it in stock would it not show the delivery charge for local pickup?

Went this morning and someone bought the last one in front of me. None in the Southern NH/northern MA area at all. Plaistow, Brentwood, and Derry all sold 20 +/- between yesterday and today.

What's the big difference in quality? I have a liberty safe that's "rated" for fewer guns (an extremely poor method of sizing safes, btw) but is nearly 3 times the weight of this unit. Of course I paid about $650 for it, but I am wondering where the cost savings is.

There is a shipping charge whether it comes to you or the store. At least that's what it is showing me. I am in the process of calling local stores now.

We need a Brickseek for where these are in stock.... $114 plus for shipping to home or store, home would be the choice.... but with that added expense, you are on your way to a better safe that is water proof or at least water resistant that almost always follows a fire. In a high humidity area, you will also need to constantly rotate desiccant canisters to keep things dry that include valuable papers.
Just use 1 or more of these:

Thanks for the followup! Did you find any stores that had it in stock to avoid the shipping?

I'm striking out in Socal

Also FYI I see on the website you can now check availability at nearby stores. I don't believe that option was there earlier but I could've missed it.

None. But one store offered 100 off Winchester brand I believe it was. It only held 24 and was 599 instead of 699.

I went to my local TSC to ask about the deal and was told that if I purchased in store to have it shipped to the store, I would get a $50 credit off of shipping costs. You still have to get it back home but it does ease the high cost of shipping on this deal. Might be worth a try to ask your local store to see if they'd do the same thing.

I tried those when I was at Pensacola.... they produce heat as their function, whereas it was already plenty hot and did nothing to lower the humidity.

You can put a gasket around the door of these cheap safes, buy a small dehumidifier and drill a hole through safe for drain, or use reusable desiccant canisters that will last a long time if safe is sealed. For weapons, I still saturate inside and out with WD-40 and let stand in corner until dripping of excess has ceased.... not much for long term lubrication, but rather an excellent water dispersement and readily available; has never failed. For valuable papers, you want to keep those dry...

If I were to guess I'd say it's in the thickness of the wall/door. The specs on this say it's 14 ga steel for both. I checked it out in-store and can only guess is they put some fire resistant barrier in between two 14 ga steel "plates". 14 ga is pretty thin and that's why I passed on this. If you're looking for something to keep thieves away, not just smash and grabs or keeping the kids out, I'd look elsewhere as well. Just my opinion.

The annual $299 safe deal is always a good buy. Two years ago I got the Fortress model and shipping was also about $113, but they offered a $50 credit on shipping that year so it ended up being $63.99 to ship.

This year I did the store pickup (ordered at 5:00 AM PST) and rented a U-Haul van for about $48 total this morning and picked it up when the store opened. They helped me lay it down on its back in the van and my wife and I were able to use an appliance dolly to get it in the garage.

Last night I went into the store to pick up a 5 gallon bucket to brine my turkey and although they'd confirmed my order yesterday morning, I made sure they'd set one aside for me. I was told that these sold out faster than in past years. I'm glad I woke up early enough to snag one in store. It appears they are sold out everywhere now.

As for the safe itself, it's okay. The exterior finish isn't high quality and it has obvious blemishes and lack of QC. The interior shelving on mine is broken but I don't care since I wasn't going to be using it anyway. Definitely ask to look in the safe before you take it from the store. This definitely won't hold 30 long guns, especially if they are scoped.
