The "offers" are not obtrusive like smartphone ads and only show on the wake screen. Opinions on this are mixed of course - some people are irritated you have to pay more to remove ads, while others find the ads unobtrusive and actually even find some good reading recommendations from the ads. You can always remove them later by paying $20. So I recommend buying a model with ads and decide later if want to remove them.

Resolution is the same on both models (300-ppi), but the Oasis has a bigger 7-inch screen, while the Paperwhite has a 6-inch display. More notably, the Oasis allows you to adjust lighting levels and ultimately filter out blue light at night, which is what Oasis buyers seem to like the most about it. Also, the Oasis uses 25 LEDs, compared to just 5 LEDs on the Paperwhite, so the Oasis offers more lighting levels and better uniformity around the screen.

Do these differences justify the Oasis being twice the price of the Paperwhite? Most would say, "No", but if you splurge on the Oasis, you likely won't regret your purchase. As someone once said, "quality is remembered long after price is forgotten."

Specs aside, the Oasis has a different form factor and ergonomics which some people prefer and other don't. So think about how you like to hold your tablets. With the Oasis, you hold it on the side and that's where the page-turning buttons are. I personally like this, but if you're someone that switches hands a lot, then you'll have to flip the Oasis often. Also, the Oasis has virtually no bottom or top bezel, so if you read in bed and prop it up on a pillow or comforter, the bottom of the page could disappear into the pillow. Or if while reading in bed you like to put your hand on top of the Oasis to steady it, you could accidentally open the settings.

Some things to consider. Hope this helps!

Naturally I just bought this for $75 more three days ago. Instead of adjusting the price, Amazon is telling me just order a new one and send back the other one. They'd rather pay shipping both ways.

Got this on Prime Day, with the immediate trade in credit. Love it but made the mistake of paying extra for more storage. The added storage isn't needed for reading, just for audiobooks. I listen to audiobooks on my phone or tablets, so the extra storage was a waste of money,

I mistakenly thought I could listen to the Audiobooks while turning the pages on the Oasis. You can't.

Sure does ! Couldn't get the immediate trade-in offer during Prime Day (even talking to a rep Frown). Did the trade-in two weeks ago, just applied the 20% + 15$ GC from the tradr-in.

Doesn't stack with the 20% off from Amex Frown

140$ after tax with the 3 months kindle unlimited is pretty sweet tho !

A lot of people managed to get the immediate trade-in during Prime days. It kinda shows randomly... Even for me, 2 weeks ago, I had to try over several times until it showed as immediate...

Anyone getting more than the 8gb version? Does it make sense for the extra price?

Got this last BF. Talked to customer service (nicely) and they let me do an immediate refund of the 20% value. And they gave me $25 for my old PW too once it arrived.

how much of a difference is this from the paperwhite for just reading ebooks?
Wondering if the price difference is justified since I'll only be using it to read.
Also, how much do the ads matter?

Considering trading in my old kindle for just $5 to get the extra 20% off. Kinda want to keep it as a backup since $5 is not much. Anyone know what happens if I don't send it in for the trade? Will they charge back the 20%?

They didn't for me when I did that last year. The did reverse the $5 credit, as expected. My 2 kindle keyboards are still working perfectly.

Ah cool. Thanks. $5 is not worth sending in my Kindle 3rd gen with 3G.
