They now ship these with the led tail switch (14500 battery only). I just finished an experiment on the parasitic drain of the switch.

I found that out earlier this year and was NOT happy about it! I just removed (effectively destroying) the surface-mount resistors in the tail switch that are inline with the LEDs to disable them. Smilie

It's horrible. If you leave an unprotected 14500 cell in this light for too long it looks like it will kill the cell and could end up even a lot worse.

That's a pretty bad parasitic drain. Basically a couple of months and the flashlight will always be dead. So horrible emergency light unless you always remember to pull your batteries out of your emergency lights. Looks tempting for an EDC though.

Aww - did not see the drain was due to an LED light. I guess that's acceptable if you're into that kind of thing. It is helpful in pitch black trying to find your light. So might be kind of neat as an EDC. Going to try it out.

I don't have the knowledge/a frame of reference to understand the parasitic drain; however, I own several of these Tool AA flashlights, and what you say makes sense, but you don't have to pull the battery out, you can just unscrew the tail cap a little and the LED light in the tail cap will shut off. It would be nice to not have to do that; but, at least, that's a simple solution. At least, to my knowledge, unscrewing the tail cap a little, works to preserve the battery life

And for around $18, this is a fantastic EDC flashlight. I would highly recommend it.

You can also twist the switch cap a quarter turn to keep it disconnected, instead of removing the battery.

If you use a standard 1.5V AA instead of a 14500, it will not activate the switch led. However, it's a lot less brighter that way. If you go that route, stick to rechargeable AA and avoid alkaline AAs that eventually leak.
