This is what t-mobile rep told me via chat:

"You won't get the remaining RDC that you currently have for the 7T if you trade it in. If you pay if off and hang on to it you will continue to get those credits, but if you trade it in, then you will get the credits for the new phone for the new promotion."
If it is paid off and unlocked - you are still getting the credits.
Now, if it is unlocked and has nothing to do with the T-Mobile, why cannot it be used as a trade in?
Doesn't make sense.

Just chatted with tforce and what the rep told you may not be all correct. You will still get the credit if you trade in the phone and will only lose it if you upgrade the same line that is currently receiving the credit. If you upgrade a different line, one not receiving any credit, and trade in the phone that is paid off, you will continue to receive the credit. You just can't have two credits on a single line.

I got 7T in July for $150 on 24 months EIP plan and recently decided to sell it since I am not going to use it. So I paid it off couple of weeks ago and was supposed to unlock it before selling but didn't get to it.

So now it would make a lot of sense to use it as a trade it to get 8T 5G instead of selling for $200 or so.
Great to know I won't be losing the credits.

Should I unlock it just in case? Or won't matter?

I got mine in July for $150 on 24 months EIP plan and paid off the remaining amount so I could unlock and flash it to the international ROM. I am planning to trade mine in for the 8t5G and will upgrade a different line. So, the line should continue to received the remaining credit. If you are trading it in, whether unlocked or not should not matter as long as it is paid off.

I have some old S7's from family members that have moved to iphones. I am the only one holding on Android and sporting an aging S7. I am interested in the Oneplus 8 and it seems like a nice upgrade to me. Anyone have this phone? Any concerns? I skipped over the S20FE a month or so ago due to too many complains I read in this forum.

Can I just bring one of my old unused devices that are still in working condition? Or it has to be one tied to the line? Does Tmobile even check for this? Never dealt with these trade ups so not sure how it works. TIA
Glad you didn't follow the herd.

Would this be a good upgrade for a galaxy s9 that I have sitting around? I use a Note9, and am probably going to wait for the new samsung models to upgrade my phone. Do you think I am getting more value for the s9 here or should I wait?
Yes¡!!!!!!!

Clarifying note: "Add a new line to your eligible plan OR trade in a qualifying device in good condition"

The current title of simply "Free OnePlus 8 5G or OnePlus 8T 5G - $0" is a bit misleading.

I hope this helps,
Tofu Vic
Not really misleading. Where can you just get a free phone from a carrier without adding a line or trade in a phone? Name one big carrier that does that?

The OnePlus 8T, these arent T-Mobile versions are they? I know for past models sometimes OnePlus had T-Mobile variants. These arent locked to T-Mobile somehow right?

Chatted with tmobile rep on app and i was informed that my free line added back in 11/28 didnt qualify for the free one+ 8T 5G since its well past 7 days. I told him shouldnt it be within 14 days ? he went to check with his super and got the override to add the free phone promo on my free line ? i checked with him multiple times that if its truly free and he confirmed it $31.25 x 24 months worth of credits would be applied.

guess we will see when my bill cycle kicks in next month
