The deal can be triggered when purchasing a gift card.
Do NOT use Paypal or anything other than the "Credit Card" option during checkout folks. Using any other form of checkout even funding it via the same credit card is not the same. Make sure you use the same credit card that you enrolled on your Gpay account too.
Thanks. Google Pay seems to be stepping up their game.

Worked. Bought $50 target gc with my enrolled Amex card and got the notice within 3 minutes on my gpay app. Available in 30 days so guess I have to wait a bit.

here is how mine went for getting this deal:

1. followed all the steps of activating the offer on the GPay app
2. Bought a $50 starbucks GC from target using the same card in my GPay app ... 3 days later nothing came through.
3. bought a $55 cricket GC from target using the same card in my GPay app ... instantly got the notification that my $21 CB is pending Smilie

Once you clicked the link on google pay to get to the tatget website, make the purchase with the card you had enrolled in the google pay app. There is no google pay option when checking out.

If you don't use Google Pay and only the card, how does it know whether you made the purchase or not?

When you say 'checked out with the linked card,' did you have to enter that card at checkout on target.com? There's no google pay option, right?
Can also confirm. Went into Gpay, clicked on the Target offer, then clicked on Use Online. It linked me to Target.com where I made a target GC purchase of $51 with the card I had linked in the Gpay. I got the GC within 5 minutes and the $21 reward immediately in my account. HOWEVER, the offer says it will be available within 30 days. There's the catch...you have to wait. Hope this helps.

You've given Google the ability to monitor all of your credit card transactions going forward - so they know.

You're giving Google permission to monitor Visa/MC/Amex's backend system for all purchases you make on your registered card -- they'll just look for a $50 or more charge made directly at Target (online or in store) on your card

Restart the app or your phone -- make sure the Target offer is still saved

There are similar cashback sites which does same. Also this gpay feature is also implemented by raku ten 😁

Is there any way to see "pending" CB on the app other than the original push notification? I opted out of those on setup so of course didn't get it. But I can't find any other reference to it on the app.
