I guess it's not a slickdeal, but you can fly for $359 roundtrip nonstop with American to Maui from PHX normal price if you leave on a Thursday and come back on a weekday. Historically that's still pretty a pretty good price to fly that far.
The flight alone is like 1/5th the price of a 7-10 day stay per person depending on how you travel, so if one of the islands looks like you'd really enjoy it, don't let the flight cost alone stop you.
I've been to Maui once a couple years ago and really enjoyed snorkeling, hiking, walking the beach etc. Only ever living in Phoenix probably makes the experience better?
"The islands of Oahu, Maui, Molokai, Lanai, and Hawaii continue with the state's pre-travel testing program. Travelers must have their negative test results prior to departing as an alternative to Hawaii's mandatory 10-day quarantine.
Beginning December 2, Kauai is temporarily pausing participation in this pre-testing program. All incoming trans-pacific and inter-county travelers to Kauai will face a mandatory 10-day quarantine. Click here for more information(link is external). "
So except for Kauai at the moment with a mandatory quarantine, you need to get a negative covid result no more from a test no more than 72 hours before departure as alternative to a quarantine. Definitely read everything on their site before refund period is up.
And of course this could all change by the time you travel. My ticket is in mid March, it's possible quarantine restrictions are over then but I'm not relying on that.
Also, if anyone sees this I looked up hostels and hotels as that's by far the largest cost for most people I would think. At least it will be if you stay at a resort/hotel. I'm traveling solo and will probably be ok with a hostel. Keep in mind this is just a brief lookup on travel sites, there may be better prices in a month, and may be better places to get cheaper options?
Hostels, $45-$79 a night for standard dorm bunkbed shared room, after taxes/fees. $79 was in Lahaina, the rest wear near Paia, Kahului. Somewhat surprised they're even open.
"cheap" hotels in Kihei $209 to $279 a night, these were 200-240 sqft rooms.
Found a apartment/condo on a airbnb type service for $151 night average, minimum 4 nights in Kihei.
So a 7 night stay in anything but a hostel is probably going to run you $1050+ total.
