Ashford [ashford.com] has a Timex quartz chronograph rated to 100 meters of water resistance for $25. Use coupon code "HOT5" when checking out to drop the price to $24 and get free shipping.

Another option is to buy from the Ashford eBay store watchgooroo, where the watch is $25 with free shipping [ebay.com].

Seems like a good deal for a beater chronograph with solid water resistance. The strap will obviously turn many off, but that is easy to change. The watch itself is fairly good-looking, IMO.
If you purchase something through a post on our site, Slickdeals may get a small share of the sale.

I'm a "watch guy" I suppose -- which doesn't mean I'm some kind of expert, just that I like them and care about them.

Anyway, my meaningless opinion is that Timex has been totally kicking butt for the last few years. I have a few of these Timex chronos (different colors/styles) and they're pretty nice!

You know, I initially thought mine was broken, too... because the big "seconds" hand wasn't moving.

But this is how it's supposed to work. There's a little seconds hand at the bottom of the watch, above the 6. That ticks constantly, like the seconds on a normal watch. The big "seconds" is for the chronometer -- this is for when you're actually using it like a stopwatch.

That may sound odd but that's how chronographs traditionally work. It's not a quirk of Timex or this particular model.

The non-chronograph watch ticks so loud you can hear it from across the room, but the chronograph ones are actually pretty quiet. I wont call it silent, but if you're just sitting with it on your wrist in a quiet room, you probably can't hear it. Put it against your ear and you can.

Yeah, I have a Timex Weekender chrono and I can't hear the ticking unless I hold it up to my ear. Don't know if all Timex's chronographs use the same module, but I've heard anecdotally that other Timex chronos are pretty quiet too.

Timex's standard quartz three handers, on the other hand, have a reputation for being very loud.
