If weight is a concern, consider carbon steel - similar performance and material composition (actually has a higher proportion of iron than cast iron) but lighter. For info, see: https://www.cooksillustrated.com/...-cast-iron
Protip: if you get a cast iron skillet, don't buy the cast iron lid. It's heavy, you can't see through it, and the bumps underneath make it a pain to reseason. Its only worth it if you're baking in these pans and want that perfect heat distribution.

Instead, just get a clear glass lid in the size you need.
Follow up pro tip, if for some reason you did want the cast lid, the 5qt Dutch oven shares the lid with the 10.25in skillet.

I know cast iron skillets are heavy, but do light weight cast iron skillets exist? I wanted to buy this one with the assist handle, but was too heavy for my elderly mother

Agreed, these are daily prices at Walmart, has been for years.
7.99 or cheaper is a deal on the 8in, and 9.99 or cheaper is a deal on the 10.25in

The 10" is the one you want, most recipes will default to that one. We're also looking at a 12" so we can do more steaks at once (or larger cornbread batches). A great tool to have around, and this is coming from a lifelong Teflon/ceramic user.

The double dutch oven 5qt is OOS basically everywhere, the demand must be insane coupled with lower output. In fact I see several types of pans completely absent from lodge's inventory right now. I wonder if they are focusing just on meeting demand of the most popular sized skillets

Get carbon steel. I bought a "Made in" set and love them. Has all the pros of cast iron but without all the weight and they heat up so much faster. Ive been neglecting my cast iron since i bought the carbon set. Seasoning and maintenance is exactly like cast iron.
