EDIT:
I just read one of the critical reviews. I've pasted it below for reference. The problem is they are not taking into account the actual energy capacity of the battery. They are simply assuming mAh can be converted between his MacBook and the battery pack and the iPad which is incorrect. The batteries in the MacBook are 3S which means they have a nominal voltage of something like 11V while these battery packs are 3.6-3.7v. So at least for this one, it is simply the user thinking they're smarter than they are. I mean, does he really think a $35 battery pack that is the size of two smartphones will be able to charge his laptop 7 times?? He must be lying when he claims he has a 20k mAh battery that can charge his macbook pro 4 times. That would break the laws of physics and would also not make sense why laptop manufacturers don't just put bigger batteries in their laptops if they can be so cheap and so small.
Obviously the real issue is your phone. I don't lose more than 1-2% over night on a modern device.

The mophie battery cases stay always on ready to charge unless you turn them off manually so it usually charges the phone keeping it at 100% until battery depletes. I've encountered same with other battery packs as well (it's one thing for the phone to cut off the charging and not enable it again unless re plugged or it reaches certain level but I also agree on phone loosing more than 4-5% while on standby at night which would indicate battery is outlived its cycles and needs to be replaced), there are exceptions if it's being used as hotspot for example.
