decent deal on an entry level NAS.
i used this for about a year before moving to a qnap.
the functionality is bare, but if you get it set up for local file sharing and maybe non 4k Plex, it's pretty stable.

edit - N/M I have the F2-220
I've been using this and I don't recommend. It does not support VPN server or client. You should pay more for Qnap for Synology.
The OP
Oof, that's a bummer. Mine does have Intel. Thought it was the same model#

Research a bit and you can build your own NAS with FreeNAS S/W for less than $500, even a lot less if you are patient and don't have an imminent need for a server.
I find that to be an interesting idea.

been using this for over 2 years, was a bit tricky initially setting up, getting win 10 to find its ip address was a learning experience. Also be sure to have your router assign a fixed dhcp address to it nerwork ip - you dont want that changing.

Also, is there any monthly subscription if setting up VPN on these entities?
Haven't done any research yet.
