Thumbs up for the sale, buts till overpriced for what it is. If they offered a multi-car discount I might bite.

Just called to cancel and got Remote Access for $7.99. Lock and Unlock from a mobile app is pretty convenient.

BTW- if a crook steals your car, to disable the OnStar they only need to break off the small antenna for it.
I like the idea but the cost is ridiculous with Siri being on phones now

With my 2018 Chevy, the basic remote features via app are free for 10 years from purchase date.

Couple random comments:

1. Having owned a '14 Volt, a '16 volt, and now a '17 Bolt, i'm disgusted with the fees charged for the app.

2. Onstar is years behind and useless as others have pointed out in separate forums.

3. The key reasons for wanting the features are for battery conditioning and other remote access features, which really aren't even that great, just 'kind of' convenient. I also thought I'd get a discount on insurance, which might offset the fee, but nope, insurance company doesn't care (AAA).

4. It's also terribly slow - refreshing the app takes about 45 seconds. With this kind of fee, you should be getting access to at least 10gb of mobile data for use so you're not using your cell for everything.

5. Onstar/MyChevy knows they way overcharge, and they are sneaky about it. Most of the time, even if you purchase the vehicle used, you can get the premium coverage. If you let them know you're having financial difficulties, they often reverse it. Canceling can be a PITA as you either have to use the Onstar button in the vehicle to cancel your service. Workaround I found was to report you'd sold the vehicle in the Onstar/MyChevy website (I actually had to do this when I sold my volt and forgot to cancel the Onstar).

In my experience, you tell them you want to cancel and they offer more reasonable prices.

My dad would use it for the satellite phone service when working in remote areas when his cell wouldn't get service

There is no satellite phone service in OnStar. It uses regular cell towers. It does use GPS satellites to determine location.

Your dad probably had occasional better luck with OnStar phone calls vs his own cell phone due to coverage differences between the different cellular providers.

When I would travel to remote areas on my motorcycle I would sometimes carry cell phones from two different providers for this same reason.

Not exactly true. I believe onstar uses att but the reason why you get coverage when your phone doesn't is because the car has a much stronger powered antenna. I've had coverage in my car via onstar when I literally had all 3 carriers on phones (tmo, vzw, and att). That being said, it's nice to have directions sent to your car when you have no cell signal/maps and you're in the middle of nowhere.

Anyone here with a bolt can avoid paying for remote access for 5 years, mention the ev mobile command package when you call in.
