I read "The Richest Man in Babylon" a couple times when I was young. It was an easy read, as there was nothing really earth-shattering there. Put some of your income into savings. Invest in yourself. Don't go into debt to buy luxuries. Don't throw your money into crazy stupid "investments". That sort of thing.
Someone getting started with these subjects would probably benefit from Harry Browne's "How I Found Freedom in an Unfree World" and Pugsley's "The Alpha Strategy." These are also decades old, but the ideas are still worth reading.
After I proposed to my wife, her dad requested that we both read this. LIke unfrozen said, nothing too surprising, but the psychology of "pay yourself first" can help mitigate large debt. I'm buying this for my son, thanks OP.
Also recommended (though it kinda gets repetitive) is "The Millionaire Next Door."
