I can't speak for the 700s, but I got a refurbished QC35 II and they have lasted several years. I replaced the ear cushions about a year ago for $35, but I wear mine every single day for hours. Never had any problems.

I got these the last time they went on sale on ebay. They look brand new. If you're working in a noisy environment these can't be beat when making calls. I've asked several people if they could hear my kids in the background and they hear nothing unless my kids are within a couple feet. They're great. If you're a bass head you might not be thrilled with the sound signature. That said, they rolled out an EQ within the app which is somewhat effective. Overall, they're great headphones.
