Also, a single plug blocks the second in your socket, so unless you're using a surge protector or something, know this will render your other socket inaccessible.
This price is okay. All of these generic units probably use the same internals and work with the same app (Smart Life). They're fine. Some people are afraid they'll burn their house down. Others are convinced China is using these to collect data and/or establish gateways into their private network.
The only semi-valid concern I've heard is that the security behind the app/database that holds your info might be less than top-notch. What are the implications of that? Not much if you're doing things right: different username and password for the account, and keeping your "smart" devices on the 2.4GHz network while the devices that really matter (phone, laptop, streaming devices, etc) use your 5GHz network (which uses a different password than your 2.4GHz network).
In any case, I wouldn't pay more than $5 for any generic smart plug. At that price, they're probably all equally risky. If you want to feel better about it, spend $15-20 on a name brand unit.
